What did Maldonado do in practice that earned him the penalty? I heard a commentator mention something about hitting Perez deliberately. How is that? Is there a video I can see?

He didn't set out to hit Perez, just get in his way by cutting in sharp. Hundreds do it sucessfully on the motorways every day.

He probably didn't set out to hit Hamiton in Spa either but F1 requires precision and if his driving is affected in that way by his emotions then he's not safe to have on the track.

He went too far, but to some extent arrogance and a belief your superior to the other drivers is needed to be a top class driver, no?

Steven Hendry (most successful Snooker player) wrote a very honest article about how he felt a thrill with victory and enjoyed "kicking an opponent whilst he was down".

I doubt he ever hit an opponent with his cue though and causing a collision in a practice session or winding down lap when quali is over is definitely not "kicking an opponent whilst he was down".

Doubt it was a purposeful act, but he did hit him so a penalty was called for as he could have easily avoided the situation...it almost looked like he turned into him.

Surprised no one mentioned the fact that Maldonado managed 1 point for the whole of last season, he has improved but I feel he is trying too hard if Monaco is anything to go by.

To be honest, if that wasn't purposeful Maldanado should have his superlicense revoked as he might be mentally derailed and shouldn't even be given a road license.
