There are several drivers who do well in lower formulae and come to f1 and then fizzle out. However, I think it's completely possible for someone to do average in lower formulae, then make it to f1 and acclimatize well and make it work out great. Hopefully this is the case for maldonado over the coming years

But this is the thing. That is not the case with Maldonado - he has a well above average record in lower formulae (2 titles including the GP2 title, wins at real racers circuits including Silverstone and Spa, 23 wins and substantially more podiums throughout his progression to F1 - average?!?),

Great points. For the record, I only said average because I've read many things in the past from users on this forum that referred to him as average and that spending four years in gp2 means he's a mediocre driver. I think he's much better than average, but my post was mainly just pandering to the general userbase on here.

Currently In this sport, anyone with the right car setup on the right day can win.

Even FA - hence, case in point as well :P

Well I said everyone but really everyone in the top 1/3 teams. Except Massa of course. :hehe:

OK, some of you may think I've gone completely batty but with Maldonado showing he has the goods, given a decent car, who is a better pairing for helping with the Williams resurgence? Senna or Massa? I'm not sure I find Senna as impressive in F1 as he was in GP2. Yes, he is great PR fodder for the team and sponsors and he does bring a few quid but sooner or later, there has to be more once Williams makes that car even more competitive. On the other hand, Massa has all but self destructed, pouring petrol on a flaming career. I really think he is done in F1. Is Williams his last option? Hmmm...

Ok, I'll reply - you have gone completely batty. When Massa is finished at Ferrari he shoud be finished in F1 altogether. He has been shockingly bad for the past couple of seasons.

Why has everyone jumped on this 'Senna's seat is in danger' bandwagon? Have we forgotten that he was running in the points (albeit still to stop, but so had others) before Schumacher punted him off in Spain? And he scored points in both Malaysia and China in what certainly at that time was an inferior car to the Ferrari, with one of those (malaysia) being a brilliant drive, that was only 3 or 4 races ago!!

The reason that he's not been in the mix as much isn't his driving in the race - that's been strong at pretty much every single race, it's where he's been qualifying, and there is surely a question mark over the strategy that Bottas has been given his car for every FP1 until Monaco. It seems that Williams have perhaps realised this given that he was driving in FP1 for the first time this season yesterday.

To me, young drivers getting a chance in FP1 is a very good thing, but the seat they take should alternate between drivers as to do otherwise is giving one driver a big advantage over the other at every race. Don't think this is true? Well all you have to look at are in general FP1 & FP2 times compared at most races where the weather and track conditions are similar in both sessions. Sure there is rubber down by FP2, but in general of course, times in FP2 are substantially faster as by then most drivers have gotten used to the track. Bruno has been starting from scratch in FP2 every race this year until this weekend.

Personally I just wish some people (including his own teams) would give him a break and an even chance! Williams have been pretty good so far with the exception of the above, and I'm sure that they recognise that.

Anyone who actually says Senna should be replaced when he has contributed 14 points so far this season, possibly more in Spain were it not taken out of his hands, especially with comparison to Massa who has an almighty 2 points when his team-mate is jointly leading the championship, simply doesn't know what they are talking about.

Kobyashi was OK at best in lower formulas

So I've found this description of Maldonado's prang in Monaco:

Another three minutes later, Maldonado overshoots it at Casino. He clipped the inside barrier with his front wing and ended up hitting the outside of the turn with the left rear wheel. This immediately broke off the rear suspension, causing the session to be red flagged and not be restarted.

Feel free to point out how this mistake makes him a thug. Sound more like an error that anyone could have made. Does that make all the curent F1 drivers thugs or are the haters just hating.

70% of the grid fancy a chance at the title now, thanks to Pirelli and their magical tyres.

Well, I prefer the unpredictability over the processions we had during 2010(the championship itself was exciting but the races by themselves were boring)...

Firstly he did it before, to lewis, for which many gave him the benefit of doubt, he has now done it again,

‘Banned for life’ Maldonado lucky to be in Monaco

A favourite for victory this weekend, Pastor Maldonado is reportedly lucky to be gearing up to race in the Principality at all.

Bild newspaper recalls that the Venezuelan, who defied his ‘pay driver’ critics by winning for Williams in Spain two weeks ago, was actually banned after an horror incident on the streets of Monte Carlo seven years ago.

Racing in the Renault World Series in 2005, the 27-year-old ignored yellow flags before striking and severely injuring a marshal.

Organisers of the Monaco grand prix reacted by banning Maldonado from the street circuit for life.

Germany’s Bild revealed that Maldonado’s wealthy father intervened, promising to pay for the marshal’s recovery and rehabilitation from a broken back.

That intervention saved Maldonado’s future Formula One career, as no team would hire a regular driver that cannot participate in the sport’s most famous race.

kid seems to make a lot of 'errors' where the possibility of others getting hurt is not a big concern,

like a thug
