Bud, How's what they're doing different than the situation in Scotland in the 17 and 1800's?

Are you talking about the Jacobites? Those dirty rebellious Catholics? yes as I posted earlier Shia vs Sunni is very similar to catholic vs Protestant. What's the relevance?

The relevance is that given today's definitions of things, terrorism and oppression would be just as applicable. So we're best discussing why F1 arranging a GP there under the current conditions is a bone headed move and why we'll likely be having this same discussion in 2013 as long as Bernie is getting his cut.

I've never questioned hosting the race being a stupid idea, I was merely pointing out the terrorist threat made to the drivers.
But on Scotland they the jacobites were no different to the IRA in N.I. Same cause and all really, catholic vs Protestant so yeah I'm sure labeling them terrorists wouldn't be that much of a stretch.

Anyway, I think we might see a lot of banners and flyers and maybe a few things thrown onto the track, possibly getting the Safety Car to turn things upside down. This race is most likely going to put a dent into F1's image and we all know who to thank for that.

I personally don't think we'll even see that. Any attacks will be off the circuit, I think.

The FIA have said that they have extra-song security measueres in place so if anything happens, it'll be in Bahrain but not on the circuit.

Just what I predict will happen, if at all.

It doesnt matter whether Scots were terrorists in centuries past. It doesnt matter how much right is on the side of the people in Bahrain.It remains a terrorist threat against innocent people. Yes Bernie and his greed are culpable and he should not be going there..... for safety reasons not political ones. Its not for F1 to get involved in political battles and Bernie should not have put F1 in this position. Whatever rights and wrongs are involved terrorism on innocents cannot be allowed to happen. (And Im not saying terrorism hasnt happened to the people of Bahrain, their plight sounds dreadful) Terrorism isnt the answer.

Jenson Button has faith in the FIA in the lead up to the Bahrain Grand Prix:

Jenson Button says he has complete faith in the FIA's reasoning behind the decision to go ahead with the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Formula 1's governing body last week gave the definitive green light for the sport to return to the Gulf island for the first time since the onset of civil disorder last year, stating that it was "satisfied that all the proper security measures are in place" despite opposition groups in the country threatening protests to coincide with the race weekend.

Bernie Ecclestone subsequently declared that all the teams were behind the decision to go ahead with the race and, now two days before the first on-track F1 action for two years at the Bahrain International Circuit, the sport's personnel and media have begun to arrive in the country in increasing numbers with no reports of problems to date.

McLaren ace Button says that as the FIA has more information available to it, drivers such as himself have to put their trust in its decision.

Asked if he had any safety concerns about the race going ahead, he replied: "No. I trust in the FIA that they know all the information - I don't personally - so we have to trust in their decision.

"I don't think they will ever want to put us at risk. They do a lot on safety for drivers, in terms of the circuits and the cars and what have you, and that's a priority for them.

"So I believe in the FIA's decision.

"If everything is straightforward and nothing happens, it's not even going to be in the back of my mind at all."

Reports suggest security has been stepped up in the roads leading to the Bahrain International Circuit while on Tuesday in the village of Al Dair on the outskirts of the capital Manama a 5,000-strong group of local people took to the streets for a peaceful pro-democracy protest, with some banners displaying anti-F1 slogans.

This was covered on the news last night. There was a journalist from some independant publication in Bahrain being interviewed and he seemed to be all for the race going ahead. The thing to remember is that there is a legally binding contract with no force-majuer clause, as Vapitin says security will be extremely tight and cancelling the race could set a dangerous precedent for the disruption of future races. It is important that F1 is seen to not be getting involved with politics and it's business as normal.

Scotland was mentioned earlier.And it was to make the point that because terrorism has happenend before its not a reason for it to happen again, its not an answer.
