Why hasn't this race been permanently ditched goes beyond my comprehension...

Doesn't Bernie loses out on the money if there is no race? Is it worth the risk to have a race in such an unstable country, that you will probably have to cancel because you can't guarantee the safety of the F1 personnel? Wouldn't he get a better deal elsewhere?

I don't really understand how do these deals work, but I'd imagine that if there is no race, then nobody gets any money...

Well of course Bernie wants the race to go ahead...no one said he doesn't care. I'm talking about the payouts he receives to include the Bahrain GP in the calendar. Not everyone out there are amazing paymasters in times of stringent economy. Bernie's dealing is with the government here, not the citizens. At this moment, government and citizens are at war. Bernie's on the government's side. Which is why there is such an uproar about a race being held there, people see Bernie as their enemy.

I was looking forward to returning to Bahrain actually. The infamous borefest in 2010 masks the fact that the Sakhir circuit is potentially very good, now it has been returned to its former layout. What with long, wide straights leading into slow and tight corners, there are overtaking opportunities aplenty. I know the circuit has not been renowned for great racing since its debut in 2004, but now we have DRS and Pirelli, the venue could be in for some better days.

Good point. Hopefully it won't be a snooze this year!! I really am looking forward to it though...I live in arizona so I really love seeing the cars going around a track in the middle of the desert!! Plus I love the layout and it is LOTS of fun for me to drive in the F1 games.

And regarding safety, the f1 teams can afford to hire a small military force to line the paddock

I'm anticipating a replay of last year, with riots getting move intense the closer the date gets, and more killings, followed by a hypocritical comment by Bernie that in order to guarantee the safety of all, they've decided to postpone this years race and try to schedule it at some point later in the season.

An another three week wait for us before Spain so lots and lots of car development. Those W ducts will be on even Marrusia's car by then.

It's along the same lines as define normal.

The actions of some so-called civlised nations are not exactly civilised are they? Maybe the difference is that they carry out their uncivilised deeds in other countries rather than right on their own doorstep.

Ultimately, the decision to race is upto the teams and MrE. The last I read the teams are all willing to race as long as there is enough security.

You miss the point. If the teams were to not race based on moral objections there would be no races at all!

But I think you're missing the point of what's going on in that country in regards to the rioting, seems pretty well documented why to cancel the race.

I am not missing any points.

I brought up civlised as the governments of countries like the UK and the US are quick enough to call other countries civilised when their own practises in themselves are extremely questionable and not exactly civilised.

If it is safe to do so and there is enough security they should race. These are the teams words, not mine. F1/sport and politics should not be mixed but sadly they often are.
