Meh, while the safety car did indeed help Seb in getting past Lewis, the German was faster than Hamilton in the closing stages anyway. I refuse to read too much into it.

I don't think Vettel would have been able to pass Lewis on track, we saw Webber .700 behind and couldn't make it past, the McLaren was fast in the DRS zones. Part of Lewis' problem at the restart was being stuck behind Vettel he chewed his tyres up following him. Had he been ahead at the restart he would have had better pace similar to Jensons as McLaren turned the wick up.

Can I be your bridesmaid at your wedding? :hehe:

Sure why not

Hey on another forum I saw someone thought Pic (one lap down on teammate) did a better job than Kobayashi (Finished ahead of teamate and faster lotus renault with a WDC). Now come on people may prefer Perez to Koba slightly (which is really just opinion and not based on the actuall results both drivers have achieved but the results have been close enough that I can just about accept this) but to Rate Pic higher than Koba at this race is seriously odd. Some people don't like Koba beacuse he had the audacity to fight fairly, safely and robustly against British drivers and other F1 front runners on his first GP's. I like Brundle but feel he picks drivers he likes and ones he dosen't and then finds it hard to praise those he dosen't ( Heidfeld, Koba and Maldonado) with ones he does who can do no wrong (Raikkonen, Di resta, Perez). Perez is a good driver but lets see if he can get more points than Kamui this year, as he failed to do so last year.

Also Saw one person give diresta 9/10 whilst most others put him towards the poorer of the performers today, if a person can rate diresta so high on a day he was mostly behind every other half decent car for the majority of the race it makes me wonder what he would have to do for such people to actually say he had a poor race? I never get the di resta thing when last year the standings were:

9 Adrian Sutil German Force India-Mercedes 42
10 Vitaly Petrov Russian Renault 37
11 Nick Heidfeld German Renault 34
12 Kamui Kobayashi Japanese Sauber-Ferrari 30
13 Paul di Resta British Force India-Mercedes 27
14 Jaime Alguersuari Spanish STR-Ferrari 26

yeah, first of all, after the safety car (when Seb was trying to run down Jenson), Seb did not pull away from Hamilton very much. Secondly, I've forgotten which race it was last year (someone help me out here, please), but we have seen Hamilton defend his position from Seb very effectively before, even on much worse tires, which was not even the case yesterday.

Yes, it was going to be a close, "thrilling" end for the battle for second. But thanks to the safety car BS, we weren't able to see it.

I've been trying to figure out why the red bulls didn't send seb out on the soft tyres when he came in for the safety car. He had a set that had exactly the same wear on it as the set he started the race with (presumably...same # of laps, didn't see any lockups). With that set of tyres and a heavy fuel load he went 16 laps at the start. With his pit timing there would have been 19 laps at low fuel with the soft tyres, not to mention that at least 1-2 of them would be behind the safety car (unknown time for clearing the debris). They had plenty of time to get the tyres ready because it took awhile after the safety car had been called out before he got around to the pits. IMO if he had them on he could've at least taken the fight to button in a strong way. I know that the gap between the compounds was reduced, but was it such a substantial reduction that something he should've been able to handle with no problem (19 laps-safety car time on light fuel load) wasn't worth it?

Pretty sure he went option-option-prime.

This would have helped Vettel claw back the gap to Hamilton.

Button McLaren O P P
Vettel Red Bull O O P
Hamilton McLaren O P P
Webber Red Bull O P P

I don't think Vettel had used the Primes yet, so they had no choice. Pretty sure he went option-option-prime.

Oh wow, you're right. Most of the other people went prime for the 2nd set of tyres so i thought he had. I blame the fact that the race was on St. Patrick's Day (pacific time) so I was drunk while watching it.

I'm a little surprised Massa didn't blame Senna for their incident. Doesn't he usually do that?

Massa's blaming the car instead, which is fair enough, its tail happy for sure, but his performance is still very poor, too put it nicely.

This is why Vettel was going for the undercut in the pit stops. This is why he was 0.7 seconds behind Hamilton when Lewis pitted and why he was eating up the lap times at that moment. What the safety car prevented us from seeing is not a top speed-handicapped Red Bull trying to overtake Hamilton, but Vettel putting in two or three lightning fast laps to jump Hamilton after the pit stops.

IF he had 2 or 3 lightning fast laps in the tyres. Wasn't he was going to pit that lap anyway? swear i read that he was.

He had clearly been saving up his tyres behind Hamilton.
But say he was planning to stop that lap anyway, consider this: on the lap that Hamilton pitted, Vettel reduced the gap from 1.9 to 0.7 seconds. Considering that, it would be save to assume Vettel would have had a very good chance to make up at least another 0.7 second in the lap before his pit stop.

Hell of a race! gonna watch it again tomorrow cuz I was a bit too drunk to realize exactly what was going on.....I coulda sworn somebody spiked my drink when I saw a williams car breathing down webber's neck at one point. unbelievable!!

Indeed, there's no doubting that the car is terrible to drive. But there's no excuses for being far slower than Fernando, as usual.
