AVUS

That would be a mental race...

Just look up AVUS on wikipedia, had a lol moment when i seen the track layout, apparently the original layout was 19km

:hehe: It's difficult to imagine a modern F1 race at AVUS that would be free of colossal carnage at some point in the race.

I doubt there would be carnage. Lot's of slip streaming and it would be an engine breaker (something modern F1 lacks - a true engine killer of a circuit).

I suppose Monza and Montreal are, on paper, the ones most likely to bust engines, due to all the straights. However, not a lot of engines went pop last year at either of those venues. They seem to be thoroughly robust these days. Seeing an engine failure now is like spotting an endangered species of animal! Something that was totally different a decade ago.

You must remember the teams have an allocation of 8 motors for the season and at Monza they tend to use that unit just the once, so yeah its an engine breaker of sorts.

^ That's an interesting idea. BTW, anyone ever played on Spa backwards? Simply hair raising stuff!! Try approaching Eau Rouge at full speed...if it could happen in F1, Eau Rouge really will separate the men from the boys.

hadn't really thought about that, was just so we get 20 races on the bbc.

Could make a return with the turbos...

This is an interesting thread, so it's time for it to be revived!

1. Melbourne / Adelaide - the true season opener! It just... feels right to start in Australia. Maybe Melbourne and Adelaide could alternate each season?

2. Interlagos - I preferred it being in the first half of the season. Furthermore, this circuit is MINT.

3. Sepang - Good circuit for overtaking.

4. Shanghai - Never a dull race, visually splendid, great opportunities for some action. Just wish the grandstands would fill up, but it would probably take a new Chinese F1 star in order for that to happen.

5. Imola - bring back this beautiful F1 circuit to kick off the European season!

6. Monaco - it's all about the tradition and glamour, more so than the racing, but nonetheless, it's a jewel in motorsport's crown.

7. Jerez - Alonso on the grid means it's important to have a Spanish GP, but Barcelona and Valencia are awful. Give Jerez another try.

8. A1 / Red Bull Ring - Beautiful setting for the Austrian GP, with the gorgeous Alpine backdrop. This is the circuit I miss the most.

9. Nurburgring - I'm a fan of both German circuits used currently, so the Nurburgring can have the European slot.

10. Monreal - Amazing circuit. End of.

11. USA - Whether it be at Indianapolis or the new Austin circuit, F1 needs a base in the USA! A pairing with the Canadian GP splits up the European season nicely.

12. France - Magny-Cours was a great circuit on paper, but rarely produced the most thrilling of races. Paul Ricard could be an option, or a venue in more urban Paris maybe?

13. Silverstone - Britain was where it all started, and MUST have a Grand Prix. Lots of investment has recently gone into the facilities, so why not keep it here? It's a great circuit.

14. Hockenheim - The long straights through the forest are gone, but the overtaking remains. I'd be all up for the German GP remaining here.

15. Hungaroring - Once upon a time, this circuit was shunned as a "bore". But it hasn't produced a dull race since 2004. And the setting is lush.

16. Spa - Francorchamps - All time favourite.

17. Monza - My personal favourite. For me, nothing beats the sight of the cars blasting through the forest and parkland in the late summer sunshine.

18. Singapore - Glamorous, like Monaco. But unlike the principality, it HAS overtaking.

19. India - There may be still potential in this venture. Last year's race was crap, but the circuit has potential I believe. And India is a good market.

20. Suzuka - C'mon!!! End the season in STYLE!!!

This is, at the moment, my ideal calendar. I've retained the best Asian venues, and restored Europe as the bulk of the calendar. :D

Where's Turkey? :yikes:

It's actually quite difficult to fit everything in to just 20 slots, and I compiled that list when it was very late at night, so it's not altogether 100% perfect.

If you look at one of my subsequent comments on page 2 of this thread, you'll see that I mention Turkey, so don't worry!

Fuji instead of Suzuka, now there's an interesting choice! Interesting, I say, because I can see where you're coming from.

Many consider Suzuka to be amongst the all-time elite of circuits... praise which has eluded the lesser-used venue at Mount Fuji. But the latter is by no means a bad circuit. The sheer challenge of Suzuka is not matched, but the races are still entertaining.

Maybe it'll take another 30 years break before returning for a third two-year bout!

Wow it's interesting that you guys are talking about Japanese race tracks, because I was thinking about Aida. I really loved that track in my first ever exposure to F1 which was a Playstation Game based on the 1995 Formula One season.:cloud9:

Imola also ranks pretty highly in my list of circuits. Adelaide as well. Buenos Aires brings some memories as well and I would love to see races around Nordscheiffe. :cloud9:

For the French Grand Prix that they are thinking would be nice to have, I would love to have Le Mans on the F1 calender.

And Grand Valley Spee... Oh wait, that's not real. :(
