The way F1 would react all depends on how stereotype minded it would be.

First of all, let me set things straight ( :hehe: ), I don't care what kind of sexual orientation someone has, it's obvious nobody asked to be straight,gay,...
but you have to agree that F1 on its own has a certain image, and some part of that image contains "fast cars, cool men (pilots), and pit babes". That's just how it is. Overall speaking, you could say F1 on that aspect is very much a straight appealing sport.

I don't believe a "Brüno"-ish type of character would actually get there or fit in...
But to be honest, a lot of gay people just blend in. They look and live like an average straight people, and why couldn't they actually be a fast racing-driver?

If someone like that would enter F1, and give us great races, great results, I don't see a problem with that at all. After all, that's what we want isn't it? Great races with great action from great pilots, gay and straight ones.

I dont think the spectacle would be taken away from F1 if we had fast cars with cool women driving them and pit dudes-suit me. And i dont care what their sexual orientation is if they provide fast exciting driving.

What about fast women with cool cars?

But if an openly gay camp driver came into the sport and didnt give great results, or great preformances (as half the grid perform most seasons), you would have an issue??

Who is F1?

in other words.......... how could anybody know how F1 would react.
I'm guessing in the same manner people in general would... some would think one thing, others something else... others will cinderella the guy... others will criticise his helmet decor.

Or he could land in HRT... in which case nobody would notice :hehe:

Just came across this little article and thought I'd share it.

Homosexuality and sport are issues that historically do not mix well. However, in recent times the sporting world has begun to accept that some of those competing at the highest levels are gay. Former Welsh rugby captain Gareth Thomas came out publicly in 2009 and more recently England cricketer Steven Davies revealed his homosexuality.

In fact there are now openly gay men and women in most major sports. Even football with its reputation of homophobia now has a openly gay player, albeit, in the Sweden’s fourth tier.

But one big sport without an openly gay competitor is Formula One. Why is this? F1 has existed for over 60 years so surely there must be some gay drivers amongst all those who have fought for the World Championship?

How do you think F1 would react to an openly gay driver if one were to come out this year? I would hope it would be positively from both the teams and the fans but homosexuality and sport has always been a difficult and controversial issue.

Your thoughts?

I mean, a huge (and somewhat unnecessary) fuss was made back in 2005 when Narain Karthikeyen became the first Indian F1 driver, and again in 2007 when Lewis Hamilton joined the ranks, but we've yet to see a driver ever come out as gay or bisexual.

And another interesting point... do we honestly think every single F1 driver in the past has been straight? A pretty remarkable clean-sweep if you ask me...

But how would people react? I guess they would loose respect for him after seeing him grope his boyfirend's nether regions in front of the garage! I mean how is an engineer to know when the driver is not checking him out? Or when you go to tighten his 5 point seatbelt and you see a wry smile on his face? A gay guy won't even be able to sit in the car for the morning sessions because of you know.... Just saying, if a driver is gay, he is better off keeping it in the closet :hehe:

"How are your tyres, Sutil?"
"tha tyres are FABOULOUS!!" :gay:

"I'm sweating in here! ugh, this is really going to mess up my makeup! where's my vitamin water?" :hippy:

"Oooh, need to adjust my G-string, don't want to split the twins"

Indeed, rather an old fashioned view of those that pursue an alternative lifestyle.

What if it was Lewis Hamilton? Ram you take a lot of heat here for being the numero uno Lewis fan and maybe not all justified since it's your choice of which driver to like, but whatever heat you get from your opinion of what being gay is justified, it not only sounds extremely homophobic, but it makes you sound as if you're Borat's neighbor, Nursultan Tuyakbay.

Yep, real funny. I bet the proportion of divas among gay people is similar to the proportion of gay people among the human population, but of course, then we couldn't make fun of them. So let's pretend every gay came straight out of the Glee cast.
