Why not just have a time bomb in the tyres which will set off at any random time? "More aggressive"...lol

wouldn't surprise me. The drivers will be going ultra slow on the corners to make their tyres last. The last driver left with four intact tyres on their car wins :hehe:

Yep. BOOORRRIIINNNGGG! Not the pinnacle of motor racing. Why not let F1 race properly agen and have a new race category called 'The Tyre Preservation Challenge.' TTPC, it has a ring to it.

Actually it would still be the pinnacle of motor sport. Rather than just giving it the beans, the drivers will have to learn tyre management - much like Button last year when he played the waiting game and ended up with some great finishes. It is possible to still be fast by going slow.

I guess Alain Prost can't be considered a 'proper' racer given his skillset then.:hehe:

Not at all. There werent these silly tyres in his time.

Conserving tyres has always been in F1 and Motorsport in general overall to some degree.

Exactly, especially in Prost's era (ie mainly the 80's) when being able to drive without destroying the tyres was a huge skill to have as it is now, it won him several races single handedly (most famously Adelaide '86, perhaps...).

The drivers still have qualifying to show how fast they are on one lap, let them show a wider range of skill in the race. The 'pinnacle' should test every single aspect of skill not just speed!

I suppose my point is this, the tyres and their characteristics are a big part of what an F1 car is designed around with each car using them slightly differently, I'm not saying it's with any deliberate intention but the slelection of compounds for each race and any change to the tyre design through the season could easily benefit one team over another. It's up to the teams to know how the different compounds work but I just think it's totally wrong for pirelli to say they have other things ready to introduce depending on how the first couple of races go.

I agree but scales can tip in odd ways especially with Pirelli's thumb on it. So much of the sport today is contingent on a good race start, as being caught mid field (for whatever the reason, but often due to tire conservation issues during qualifying) is a sure way to waste a set of tires simply trying to get a head of a couple of cars.

Let there be qualifying tires AND race tires... not too much to ask.

Agreed, but to sense when your tyres are going off, to eke out a bit more, to work a strategy round your skill, is different to anticipating when a tyre is going to fall off the cliff , that's a lottery, you get lucky, you get unlucky. The result is not really down to skill, its down to who is near the pitlane entrance at the drop off point and who gets call to pit over his team mate. And now Pirelli have more jokers up their sleeves :(
