They had a bloody difficult choice to make, I'm glad I wasn't the one having to make it! I'm happy for Grosjean, and am glad he gets another chance to show what he can do. Replacing Nelson Piquet Jr at short notice at a time of limited testing wasn't ideal.

This is his proper chance now.

Big John is no better than Petrov (I sincerely doubt he'll even be a match for either Petrov or Senna) and ditching him is a big mistake. Petrov knows the team and now has 2 years experience with the current mickey mouse F1 gimmicks which should help them move forward. Now they have a driver who is returning after 2 years away and a rookie. Way to move forward Renault! Obviously stability is not a priority here.

I disagree with you lot in there - I would ditch Petrov and Senna and give Grosjean the seat. Petrov showed some promise at times this year, but he's not nearly fast enough for his lack of consistency, and Senna is obviously not F1 material, that wouldn't even be discussed if he had a different last name.

Cant agree on Senna. He's come in with no experience or time in a current F1 car and done a reasonable job. Compare him to Fisi at Ferrarri when felipe was injured. He was more than solid in F2. I think Grosjean is a mistake.....but I may be wrong.

Although GP2 results suggest otherwise...

As I said. I could be wrong. I havent really followed him I must admit.

No experience? Senna did a full season on HRT, no matter how bad it is, it's still a F1 car, not only he had previous F1 experience (which Grosjean didn't), as this Renault is much, much better than the 2009 Renault.

But this years Renault has not been developed (Petrov has confirmed this) particularly in the latter part of the year, so the car hasnt been that good.
Yes he did do the HRT but Renault reckoned that experience hindered him. Crashing the HRT was not an option because they were strapped for cash, cash and Senna had developped an over cautious driving style.
I just think Senna has way more potential than we've seen, especially when you consider he didnt drive a single seater until 2004.His family kept him away from motor racing but his mother realised how desperate he was to race and relented.

Well maybe Grosjean has the potential to do well also. Thing is with both drivers changing at Renault we'll never really know who would have been the best choice.

Hardly..... most of the teams points were scored in the first seven races. They were crap after that...

But that '09 Renault was probably the worst car on the grid by the end of the season :P

However, this year's Renault still got into Q3 in most qualifyings, it was in many cases the ineptitude of their drivers that led them to non-scoring positions. Just look at how many incidents Senna's been involved. Over-cautious, were they saying?

Exactly.

Yes thats what Renault said.

There have been crashes,as there have been for most drivers; but there have also been high points. And he's had some bad strategy calls , Kers failure and an underdeveloped car. There certainly hasnt been consistency but there has been improvement and clear potential.
I think its a shame he couldnt build on what he's learnt this year.

Senna did well considering he had to play catch up having joined mid season.

Would be nice to see him get a fair go in a decent car from the start of a season.

Gutted Senna didn't get it but can see why. Never rated Petrov myself as he's never really done... anything of note, also always considered him as essentially a pay driver so won't miss him much :hehe: Grosjean at least deserved an F1 drive somewhere after annihilating the GP2 pack this season so fair enough. Plus it's good we have a French driver again.
