In all of Kimi's engine failures, Mercedes discounted driver error, saying he had nothing to do with them going boom. Whether its PR or what I don't know.

Who would a team rather blame - a driver that scores them points and helps attract sponsors or the engine supplier where they can use it as a bit of leverage to try and get a few extra ponies produced along with other improvements?

As you say, it could be PR, we'll never know for sure, but my point still stands - a driver can still knacker an engine if the do something extremely stupid.

personally I think this is true, a drivers style can play into the engine life. But in Kimis case I don't think the amount of failures he had were his fault.
