I've been against the cost savings/budget caps from the very start. I'm all for the big spending and have little sympathy for the newbies. They should know how much F1 costs to compete in and if they fail to understand that then tough.

Surely the additional tyre cost would be picked up by Pirelli anyway?

The teams would have to buy tyres from Pirelli but Pirelli ship the tyres as far as I know.

How many tyres are we talking here? A couple of sets per car? there comes a point when stopping for tyres isnt feasible.... a six stop race? nah. A few extra tyres are not much extra money in the great scheme of things. If they were really seroius about cutting costs they could just cut wind tunnel use by a percentage and hey presto, more saving there than shipping out a plane load of tyres.

Stop adding more and more races in Asia, and that's another load of air-miles saved.

Racechick - The reason I suggested unlimited tyres would advantage Lewis is because it would allow him to maximise his strongest asset (the ability to go faster than most over a single lap) for longer, whilst at the same time minimalise his weakest point (the ability to keep his tyres from degrading too quickly and therefore compromise his ongoing race pace). All of this shows up in particular sharp contrast with the relative strengths and weaknesses of his teammate Jenson Button.

If there were unlimited tyres for the race all the drivers would be multi-stopping because the advantage of going faster over each single lap on fresh tyres pretty much negates the time lost for the extra pitstops.

Yeah I know what you meant, Lewis isnt suited to cruising round the track playing nursemaid to tyres. He probably would benefit, but I was thinking of Q3. Sigh! Now you've got me thinking about the days when they could race...........

Doesn't matter what country the race is in. As long as the track is good.

Hey at least it's not as painful as when you had to make 1 set last a WHOLE race, like in 2005! Kimi Raikkonen will tell you all about not being able to race properly!!! :hehe:

TBH re-fuelling would also be to Hamiltons strength as well...Which maybe at least to me he hasnt looked quite so impressive since the end of 2008 - notwithstanding McLaren not being the quickest car since then either...But often they weren't in 2007 & 2008 either.

Don't even start me on the McLaren disaster that was Kimi and 2005 :censored:

Until then I was a fan of the team but not since they shown themselves to be so poor at driver management and providing their drivers with the best possible chance of winning the WDC. :banghead:

Apologies to all the many Mac fans on here.

If we're talking spectacle thats true, but we're talking cost of flying the f1 circus out there.

Drive then, Europe and Asia are on the same land mass. :whip:

This is a World Championship no?

They should just sort the frigging calendar into a more logical order and have all races in the same rough locations at the same times of year. Not having the likes of Bahrain and China at one end of the season with Abu Dhabi and Japan at the other. I've heard several times that F1's single biggest cost is flying things everywhere, so it really should be a no brainer! :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

No offence taken. It was one of the worst years to be a McLaren fan (apart from 2007 of course), seeing Kimi get robbed time and time again from his own team was just painful! He should've cruised to the WDC that year, it was his best performance by far!! Then he went to Ferrari, became mortal (but still very good) and won the WDC he rightfully deserved. One good thing Ferrari has done in their entire history IMO. :P
