Some of you guys surely must realise F1 Grand Prix are an event, an attraction. There's more to it than just race tracks. For the race goer the experience is everything, for people watching on tv well sorry it's not good enough for you! :banghead:

By this logic we should ditch Monaco!

Yes, please do!!! most people watch on TV as frankly it's damn expensive to get to a grand prix is person, especially when you factor in travel, camping, hotels and food plus merch! The biggest audience is on TV, and where a good percentage of revenue for FOM comes from, how many broadcasters pay tens of millions each year for the privilege of screening F1! Fine you have the scenery and attractions of NYC, but is that a good compromise with dull racing, cars driving around in procession for 60 laps, choosing location over good racing doesn't see in the spirit of F1!

Yeah but we have seen with Korea, Turkey and China for example that a good track does not equate to crowds. Seeing empty seats at tracks is not what you want to see on tv, its not a good image for F1. Plus even if the racing is good the buzz doesn't transcend through on tv. But places like Monaco, well even if the racing is dull its still a buzz to watch. You can feel the atmosphere, and its still enjoyable to watch on TV...this is what we will get with NJ I am sure of it.

Plus, how often will we get to see Cuban food served at a GP event? I'll be going, so I'll be sure to let you guys know how it all turns out.

IMO out of all the F1 fans that are out there, less than 25% are hard core fans. Meaning the other 75% dont give two pisses about the much better tracks they have over in Europe that provide better racing. All they want to do is get a chance to see 24 of the best drivers in the world duke it out in 24 of the fastest circuit cars in the world. Most of all I really think people want to see ferrari perform being that f1 is the only factory program they have to my knowledge. and as far as memorable sectors are concerned I think this coarse has a few. The forest on the back could be memorable, and the right turn leading to the final straight exposing the city skyline could be memorable. Formula 1 has changed and its time we change with it.

I'd rather have a great track layout than some glitzy location with no substance. We'll see which category this one falls into...

Given the fact that there's a handful of crappy tracks in less than exciting locations with under 50% of attendance by fans, I think most of the American fans mind are in favor of this one. And guess what, it's not costing 200 million dollars to build from scratch. It may yield less than stellar racing, but how is that a loss when compared to Bahrain or Valencia or Hungary. If we're stuck with a pig, at least we're stuck with a glamorous pig.

My first posting here:

Greetings from The USA! I saw my first F1 GP in Monaco, also been to races at Watkins Glen(2), Las Vegas, and Montreal, trying to make it possible to get to Austin.

My thoughts on a New Jersey race.
It will be a financial and public relations disaster for the organizers and Fomula1. Watch that video (thanks to the poster) and imagine the work needed to make those streets ready for an F1 race...close those roads for days?...tell people they can't get in/out of their homes? Who pays for the lost business to the shops closed to their customers? Sure you can sell 100,000 tickets...and have 500,000 pissed off residents who can't move around their own town.

I really want to see more F1 in the USA. IndyCar is fading fast, racing in front of nothing but empty seats, BUT a street course in Hoboken is NOT the answer!

Greetings Jimster, welcome to the forum! :wavey::thumbup:

Interesting first post there. It may be worth pointing out that no such major issues have plagued other street circuits, such as Monaco, Singapore, Albert Park or Valencia?

There was a feature on the BBC today, following DC as he met fans in Texas. Whether it be concerning the Grand Prix in Austin, or the street circuit in Las Vegas, everyone seems to be raving about it. :)

That is the Cuban's own damn fault for once having kidnapped the world champion.

I just read a article about Atlanta motor park having a f1 capable track, tilke designed.

It was in a street truck magazine not a racing mag

Monaco royalty Charlotte Casiraghi present throughout the awards ceremony is the only thing this typically dull race has in it's favour.
