I am a long time MacLaren fan and when Lewis joined F1 I was really excited and supported him to the fullest. He had an amazing rookie year and really turned F1 on it's head. He was great in his 2nd season but only won the WDC by the smallest of margins. Since then I think he has failed to live up to expectations. When I say expectations, I mean the expectations of everyone who expects a young man to come into a top team, beat everyone and then stay at the pinnacle for many years. I cannot think of any young driver who got a seat in a top car, can you? Kimmi got a licence to drive F1 when he was young but he was not put into a top seat immediately.
I remember seeing Vettel in what was a Minardi, driving the pants off it and I knew he was one to watch. Lewis has never had to start from the back in a shitty car so we only see Lewis in one of the best cars. I think the pressure has gotten to him and he is not as good as we all think he is. I have always liked Jens but never really thought of him as a real racer, I have been proved wrong and I am very much in Jensons camp now.
I think someone else here summed it up for me. Lewis is fast, but fast and crashing does not win Championships.
My thoughts on the crash are that Lewis was being optimistic and Massa was having none of it. I would say a racing incident but why is Lewis always involved?
