...I've said the same thing about qualifying an tires pretty much since the second of third race. It's killing the thrill of qualifying and the added strategy to the Sunday race is minimal given the dominance of the lead teams....

The whole disintegrating tyres scheme was not a very well constructed plot, was it? At least they managed to fend off Bernie's "water sprinklers to be switched on at irregular intervals" fix.

Which further demonstrates the folly of the FIA's absurdly stringent constructor's rules, which have stifled creativity and dramatically narrowed the performance differential between cars. So then they have to invent more rules from whole cloth in an effort to manufacture the same levels competition they have only just regulated out of existence. Except the invented rules always have unintended consequences, such as teams giving Q3 amiss to preserve tyres for the show.

The natural evolution of a motor sport is a marvel to behold, but this, ...this is just the Island of Dr. Moreau on wheels.

Well that may be, but to me it's starting to feel more like one of the more macabre Brothers Grimm fairy tales.

:banghead: :banghead: Fed up! fed up! Why was jenson dallying around so Lewis had to back off? And then get mugged and then miss his lap and then get Whitmarsh (who Im rapidly going off) blame him and make love to jens on the TV. And then lewis has to blame himself cos this is the role they've cast for him. Never seen lewis so down. Dont even want to watch this race. Im very sad.

IT WAS HAMILTON'S OWN FAULT!!! He did not need to back off that much, he isn't that much faster than Button that he needed such a huge gap and for how much he slowed down, he probably wouldn't have made it to the line before the chequered flag dropped, you can not seriously blame Button, the onboard footage clearly shows how much Hamilton slowed down into the chicane, highlighted by the speed that Schumacher and Webber shot by, the onboard also showed Hamilton playing with settings on the steering wheel while crawling through the chicane. Hamilton should be happy he didn't get a penalty for blocking. I think Whitmarh's reaction was good PR, concentrating on the positive first, which in this case was Button's lap to be with 1000th of a second of Vettel, his team were urging Hamilton to get a move on to cross the line in time, he didn't take that advice and paid the price!

Whitmarsh is an arsehole.

edit. Im sorry, but Im fed up...and he is.

Which makes Ron Dennis an arsehole too; you had no complaints when Dennis was kissing Lewis' bottom!!!

well with lewis missing his last lap, doesn't that mean he's gained a set of soft tyres??

No, because he was still sent out on (I'm fairly sure) a new set of softs for his second run. He just didn't get to set a timed lap on them, so he saved some rubber there from doing an out-lap to an inlap rather than a flying lap in between where he'd be pushing.

In fact, I think Lewis has to start on the set of soft tyes he did his first run in q3 on, and that was already a used set when he put them on for his q3 run, whereas Vettel, Button (not sure Webber went faster?) will start on soft tyres that so far have only done 3 laps (only one flying lap).

Another thing occurred to me, really clever thinking by Sauber there, as Kobayashi set sector times, he starts ahead of the Renaults and Schumacher who didn't do any timed runs in q3, but as he pitted rather than set a timed lap maybe he still gets the free choice of tyres?

yes but the rest were sent out on a new set as well, but used there's doing a flying lap, which hamilton didn't, so he should have a better set for later in the race.

He wasnt, Ron Dennis was McLaren. lewis was a 22 year old rookie. Jens is a 30+ year old experienced driver.I think the curent behaviour its sick.

I don't see the difference, Dennis preferred Hamilton over Alonso/Kovalainen, Whitmarsh prefers Button over Hamilton, exactly the same thing... age or experience has no bearing!

Its not the same. It just isnt. Ron Dennis set down the rules for drive equality, all he did was emotionally support a rookie. Jenson isnt a rookie.

:banghead::banghead::banghead: NO ITS NOT!!!

Are you suggesting that Lewis isnt given the same opportunities and equipment as Jenson? I have no issue with Dennis preferring Lewis but I do have an issue with suggesting that it's wrong and disgusting that Whitmarsh prefers and supports Jenson more, after all Whitmarsh was instrumental in bringing Jenson to McLaren, much like it was Ron Dennis that brought Lewis to McLaren!

Would you even be posting these comments if it were the over way around, Lewis was in the "love-in" with Whitmarsh?

I think that Whitmarsh has been fair; Lewis has made all the mistakes this season while Jenson hasn't put a foot wrong and that has been reflected in his comments!

No. Im not suggesting there are any equipment discrepencies, no, not at all. Lewis was in the mclaren young drivers programme, and did extremely well, thats why he was hired. He was just picked at random.

Just had a chance to watch qualifying... wow. Can't believe Lewis didn't get the second lap in. What I don't get is that there were a couple minutes in the middle of the session with NO cars on the track... why not send the cars out then? Why wait with everyone else, and get all crowded up at the end? Seems like a no-brainer to me. This isn't hindsight either, I thought this as I was sitting there watching it happen.

Hopefully this translates into an exciting race at least.

Yeah. He's absolutely cheesed off but his comments for the race are very positive. I think he's going for a do or die at the first corner, and I fully expect him to get past Jenson at least.

Vettel will be the tough one, overtaking a superior car is not easy but if anyone can do it, Lewis can.

I just hope the McLarens have the pace to not let Vettel scamper away into the distance this time.

I'll be watching the re-run of the race. I just desperately need some sleep before next week starts.

If Lewis doesn't get a good start, your prayers are futile. :hehe:
