"And Mansell was lucky not to be taken off by that RIDICULOUS bit of driving by Alliot!!" - James Hunt
"AAAAAND into the pitlane..... OHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" - Murray Walker
What would you love to see the most return to F1? And what would you love to get rid of the most?
I'd bring back;
- Slicks (probable in 2009)
- Wider cars (probable in 2009)
- Turbochargers
- 3.5 or 3 Litre V12's and V10's (keep V8's as well)
- Cosworth
- Cosworth's DFV engine
- Drivers being allowed to wave their country's flag when they win a'la Senna many times and Damon Hill, Silverstone 1994
- Clutch and gearstick (keep Semi-Automatic transmissions as well)
- More teams and 26 car grids with pre-qualifying to eliminate the slowest cars from F1 fields that are more than 30 cars
- Ingenuity from car designers encouraging radical concepts like those from Colin Chapman, Gordon Murray, Ken Tyrrell and Harvey Postlethwaite etc.
- Flamboyant drivers (I hope Freddie Hunt's just like his father was)
- Murray Walker and James Hunt in the commentary box
- Drivers who are more like moving chicanes
- Legendary names like Lotus, Brabham and Tyrrell
- W12 engines (just to see someone try and revive Life, and watch it fail again
)
- Tobacco sponsorship
- Mansell's Red 5 (Leo and Greg will probably bring it back)
- Old circuits like Estoril, Paul Ricard, Brands Hatch, Hermanos Rodriguez, old Hockenheim
- Drivers having water pistol fights in press conferences (Hakkinen and Irvine at Montreal 1999)
- Alex Wurz telling Nick Heidfeld to shave his beard
- Spectators being allowed into the pitlane (my dad's got tonnes of pictures from the pitlane at Brands Hatch 1982 and Silverstone 1988)
- The old FIA intro from the 80's - 1999 that plays at the 5 minute signal (current one's alright, but this one's legendary)
- Dangerously fast corners like old Tamburello, but with larger run-off areas and tyre barriers
- The old car numbering system (Ferrari number 27 etc)
- Larger french involvement (more French drivers and the French government backed Ligier team)
- Some races having crap picture quality (like Mexico used to, but why would I want to do that...?)
- Ferrari's blood red livery
What I'd get rid of;
- Mad Max
- Grooved tyres
- Emphasis on aerodynamic grip (especially all those annoying fins, flaps etc)
- Toyota's boring livery
- Ad breaks during ITV's coverage
- James Allen
- The 10 year engine development freeze
- Some of the OTT costs
- Engine restrictions
- Politics (put them in Brundle's Barrell)
- Boring tracks like Catalunya (especially Catalunya)
- Drivers who act like spoilt children and kick a fuss when they get a scratch on their cars
What would you like to bring back/get rid of?
