For men of a certain age... ok... me. I am just as blind for near as I am for far vision (-3.25 on both eyes also with astigmatism), and I can't see anything but a blur on the dashboard while driving, so LASIK would not prevent me from putting on glasses, so I didn't spend much time considering it.
It's the lenses that cost an arm and a leg;I used to have terrible eyesight (-6.5 and -7 with astigmatism - bascially, without glasses everything was a blur of colours and I could only read if the book was about 20cm from my face). The price for lenses was horrific, particularly if you wanted the thinner lenses (which I always had otherwise it looked like you'd strapped two bottle bottoms to your frames
).
Just out of curiosity - would you consider surgery? I've had LASIK and it's made my life so much better - such as no more worrying that I won't be able to see for a day if I accidentally break my glasses (done, several times!).
