OMG, domination by one particular driver or team is NOTHING NEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :director:

As a McLaren fan, I would rather it were my team that were dominating, but I must admit, I'm really enjoying the racing this year. Some fantastic races we've had. Can't complain.

i dont know but i dont think that this is the right way to put it.

bernie days it isnt boring but for completely different reasons to the ones some of us may hold. but for those who arent schumi fans or arent vettel fans, yes it can become pretty boring.

id rather have ferrari, mclaren, rbr, and mercedes get their drivers, get their cars, and put them to optimum condition and go at it, it gets boring to see the same result week in week out with no excitement.

its like its scripted.. :D

but again, thats the opinion i get from the end results/podiums/winners, theirs always some excitement here and there, but we need good variety.

To use a football analogy... if my team was losing 6 - 2, I would probably turn off in disgust... F1 is getting that way, Vettel is unlikely to throw away such a lead; even if he only gets 2nd/3rd/4th place finishes for the rest of the season, it's unlikely to negate his 77 point (that's more than three race wins) lead!

He drives better.

No. He doesn't. His car's better.

No it's not in my opinion. The fact that Mark Webber is constantly battling with McLarens (up till the last race) shows that it's only really as fast as them. Just that, he drives better than Mark.

thats a very interesting way to look at it.

i look at it differently because, well i go with ferrari but, i want some good racing..

i mean i dont know how to put it but, im not bias if that makes any sense.

rbr's team chemistry plus car is far above anyone else's vettel is a superb driver, but not the best in f1 imo.

Webber not performing as good as vettel means that he's not in the same caliber as vettel, hamilton, or alonso
Vettel is ahead of the pack because the redbull car is just that good...
Put lewis or alonso in a redbull and I'm confident to say that they would just be as dominant as vettel is...
Vettel is good but he's not better than lewis or alonso(at most, I'd put vettel in the same category as these two)

Indeed, Vettel has really moved up a gear, in comparison to Mark. The latter has gone from being a good match for Vettel last year to being completely flattened by him. What bigger wake-up call does one need?

The fact that SV has made the fewest mistakes and has been driving amazingly particularly in quali, in this day and age where consistency reigns supreme, makes him the best driver.

:nono:
But if you have the best grip and speed, you don't have to drive to the very limits, for trying to harvest time on the track. furthermore you start from the front row, so you don't have to risk at overtakes or getting anxious behind others! So it is less likely to make mistakes.
Thats why I believe SV is not the best driver, and he hasn't proved himself. Not yet. In my list he is underneath JB.

Not another "how good is Vettel discussion". I'll say what I said in the Hamilton/Alonso ones, we don't know and it doesn't matter. The WDC is a sham of sorts, as f1 has never professed to have equal cars, driver and car are an inseperable combination.

Why the heck would redbull put Hamilton or anyone else in the car, their coasting as it is with regards to both championships. That's the goal.

Actually, I started wanting to post on topic.

2010 and 2011 make good comparisons, as the way I see it is they're inverse seasons of each other. In 2010 the races themselves were on the whole kinda boring, but thats not just why I watch f1 I like the fast moving technical innovation and the political stuff too. Outside the on track action, there was loads of stuff going on, the championship picture was changing race to race, were McLaren going to sneak it through consistency? Would Redbull overcome their reliability gremlins? Is Alonso too far behind to come back?

In 2011, the races are on the whole interesting, but the season seems quite fixed, almost all the way down the team list. In the quieter part of the races, and in-between races, I'm kinda bored, there just seems less going on in terms of innovation or the other stuff. At the end of the race in 2010, I was thinking through how the picture looked, in 2011 I'm either empty until the next one or wanting to look back at the strategies etc. that occurred within the race.

The key I think is having something look impressive versus having a underling sense of meaning.

SV IS very much driving on the limit during quali - he basically starts the race in quali and then continues from pole to lead home in a masterful and flawless manner. Don't forget, he basically can't use the DRS because he's usually the hunted - that's quite a disadvantage as shown in Canada, therefore he HAS to stay in front by more than 1 second at all times, which he usually does quite neatly and without ruining his tires prematurely or going off track (with the exception of Canada).

Alonso might be the most consistent, and best all rounder, but not the best in any category.

Hamilton might be the best overtaker, the best racer and the best at making up his cars deficiencies, but he lacks in maturity on/off track, and makes silly mistakes at crucial times.

Vettel might be the fastest, and be the best at starting from pole, but his overtaking is below par and his in the pack racing isnt the best by far.

Why each drivers respective fans cant just accept what theyre good and bad at i dont know, but the main problem in 2011 is that the Vettel fans, want to have their cake, eat it, sick it up again, and munch on it once more. They dont just want people to recognise Vettel is a top driver, they want everyone to "accept" the absurd notion that they are just lying to themselves that Vettel isnt the next Senna. You recognise that Vettel is a wordly talent and hhis current form is top notch, but then its not good enough when you dare to say its not the car doing the most work! Because it damn well is.

Vettel is his only challenger this year, and he hasnt finished off the podium, Hamilton drove a 2007 Mclaren for half a season finishing on the podium in his fisrt season, straight in the deep end, and then beat Raikonnen and Massa in a championship winning Ferrari and a teammate in Alonso to two consecutive poles and two consecutive wins, and led the championship by a gap.....

and yet STILL people said he hadnt proved himself, infact some people even now dont think he has, and we're all supposed to call Vettel the best driver on the grid because hes winning in a dominant car with an average teammate? Please, lets not be race stewards shall we, and add a bit of consistency to our ratings of drivers.

I personally and i think i speak on behalf of millions of F1 fans, want to see what Vettel can do when paired with a world champion teammate, in a less dominant car, but still a front running car. Thats the only fair way to make comparisons to other drivers.
