Double world champion anyone?
Back to back world champion! FTW !
Sebastian Schumaker!
Just think, we've had four world champions since Alonso. Vettel getting a double will be almost unfamiliar territory. In my opinion it was getting ridiculous. I was wondering if all these rule changes were going to mean that the notion of successfully defending the WDC/WCC crown were dead.
No it is luck. And as I said, luck is part of racing so I'm super cool with it.
No it isnt luck. Luck is getting free tyre changes on the grid when your own tyres are getting old. Luck is having the safety car come out and stay out at opportune moments. Having a driver get past you isnt bad luck, thats motor racing.
Point taken, although I think Button would say that he was lucky. And motor racing is about taking your chances when they come to you. Motor Racing is mostly all about luck. On Saturday Rick Kelly in V8 supercars also admitted he was lucky when a botched re-start after a safety car resulted in the front five cars going wide or even off the circuit. Kelly overtook the lot of them, but he understands that Motorsport is about taking your chances when you get them and capitalizing on good fortune which is usually misfortune for others.
You can't fault Vettel for changing his tires in Monaco. He did everything that was available to him to capitalize on his luck. Almost every race I've seen in a wide variety of categories, I believe I've witnessed luck somehow shaping a result. Hence, I've formed an opinion that luck is part of motorsport, and skill is when you take the opportunities available to you to make the most of a result. In Monaco I believe that Vettel was making the most of the opportunity as if the race weren't going to be red flagged. If the race did continue, I believe that he would've held off both drivers. If not he'd happily pull into pits and finish on the podium. And then when the red flag was shown, he took advantage of the opportunities made available to him.
He was racing to get the maximum result from both scenarios, and the fact that he was going to get the maximum result from both scenarios means to me that he is a skillful driver.
