It is obviously the overtakers responsibility to overtake in the safest manner possible but there is only so much of an overtake that said driver can control, it is also the responsibility of the defending driver to yield and avoid an accident if he needs to.
Button did his job by being alongside Alonso, having the inside line, having the track position and braking earlier to make sure he took the corner in a way that would prevent an accident.
The thing Button didn't have control over was the defending car and sadly again the defending driver failed to give space and it ended up a collision.
Its a 50/50 accident as both were at fault but you cant simple blame Button because you seem to think the defending driver can do no wrong.
Button was ahead of him and on the inside! This was a mistake on Fernando's part in his unwillingness to yield the position and he paid the price, and Button was lucky to remain unscathed. I'm sure Alonso would do it differently if he had the chance... just a racing incident.
