Yes congrats to Seb but I was hoping Alonso could have passed him and I do not agree with the rule that allow's tire's to be changed, they should have finished with the tire's they had imo.

Yep, totally agree with the tyre thing. It could of played out so different if they stayed on the same rubber.

Seb drove a great race so kudo's to him BUT we must also look at the track as it has virtually no passing zones (atleast in modern day F1) and the DRS was virtually useless but no biggy as it is Mo Naco and a great Sunday morning :drink: !

My understanding is the red flag is like being in the pits so you can work on what ever you want. It would be unreasonable to allow teams to work on other things but not on tyres

Well you understand the rules and I agree with them also on a strictly safety basis aka Lewis's rear wing but I think the tire change should be eliminated if we have another occurence such as in Monaco. I would love to hear Alonso and Button's opinion of this.

Totally yes! He decided to gamble and he won.

the thing is though, it wasn't his gamble that paid off was it? it was actually an accident that stopped the race and allowed him a change of tires. had he continued on the tires he was on then who knows what could have happened.

red flag should be limited to essential work only, anything else should be done as usual in the pits. i seriously doubt that vettel would have come in for a tyre change, and if he had had to he certainly would not have won.

i for one was hoping for a different result.

Well, he decided not to go in when he saw Button going for a change of tyres. So, yes, it's his call.
#258451
but that choice isn't what won him the race, so techniquely he didn't make the call. the race was won under red flag and a change of tires. i'm afraid you can't pick and choose what he did to win. had they continued running the race on the choice he made i don't think he would have won. he had two faster drivers behind him. the change of tires under the flag maybe within the rules but really it was a cheat. had the race continued as was he wouldn't have risked a change of tires.

Ah, the big c word! You can't pick and choose what you consider ok or cheating. If it's in the rules, it's legit. Period. Besides, basically every driver changed their tires, so all were cheating then, eh?

I think some people just can handle the domination... Oops!!! What I wanted to say is: if the others were changing tyres, fixing rear wings etc... He can do it too.

my point is that he wouldn't have pitted to make the change, and they didn't all change tyres. had he finished the race on the tyres he was on then yes he would have won on the choice he made originally, a good call. the fact is he didn't, he made a tyre change that he would not have been able to do without losing the race. i'm not just talking about him and the tyre change as a cheat, but the whole thing. the rules do not make a good race, if they wouldn't have normally pitted to have work done then it shouldn't be done under red flag. it's a cheat in that it stops the way the original race was going. it's bad enough that the safety car can do that without work being done outside of the pits that effectively finishes the race before it's restarted. it cheated me of what was potentially a good race finish, however that panned out.

He meant cheating in a more figurative way I think, rather than it breaking the regulations. Like "cheating" death. It was a cheat in the sense Vettel got away with something in a strange set of circumstances.
