Two races ago, the pilot was in the car after qualifying for minutes.
Today they stopped the car in the garage, and a warning over the car with the text "kers on". The mechanics did not approach.

I think one possibility: electromagnetism.

Newey innovation. It's always said that F1 drivers must have balls of steel. The RB incarnation of KERS welds them to the car so he doesn't move and upset the balance.

Electromagnetism is when a magnetic field is produced by an electric current. Not really an issue in and of itself. Magnetic fields aren't dangerous, but the electric current used to create them can be. So if we assume that said current is high enough, and has somehow shorted onto the frame or other conducive component (possible given that we know RBR has had to be creative with regards to packaging)... it could definitely create a hazard to those without protection.

But I think the electrical danger comes from the batteries that store the KERS charge. I think they're relatively simple chemical cells used in production hybrid vehicles. I could be wrong.

Maybe in order to get KERS to fit, they've had to disassemble the stock Renault system and re-assemble, or completely leave off, parts that provide extra security... interesting thought.

I think the amount of power to produce a big enough electromagnetic field, to move a metal flap that would be able to take the forces on the car at a few hundred kph. So I would not imagine it was that.

EM energy is not hazardous, unless it is oscilating at a high frequency, which would become RF energy. from this you could get Microburns and a nice dose of radiation. There might be an issue with radioactive spark gaps if the Kers systems use higher that a 500v potential difference. However in the larger scale of things the amount of radiation by this would be tiny compared to using a mobile phone etc.

Remember this:

Not EM, the car was charged up. Maybe there's similar issues with Red Bulls systems. I hadn't thought of that being the reason for Vettel sitting in his car for a couple of minutes but it could be.

Just in from LDM:

"They're just a drinks company guys they don't know anything about electromagnetism":rofl::rofl:

Hey, blame Hamilton for that one.
