or it could be that he doesn't have a car with tires designed specifically for him,no traction control,the competition is 1000 times better than when he was at Ferrari,his teammate can actually race him and nobody is intimidated by him.
We're comparing him to younger f1 drivers he's competing up against, he's obviously physically capable of driving an f1 car as he's been doing so.
The point is, if his physical attributes have declined to the point where he's no longer competitive.
I'd say MS is in better shape than the youngsters.

Anyway, everyone gets old, I'm pretty sure reflexes, eyesight declines naturally. Obviously the extent at least will vary from individual to individual, when I can be bothered I'll look it up.Nigel Mansell won his title at 39 and I doubt he was anywhere in Schumi's shape,but the apologists have to blame something It's simple Schumacher SUX and Rosberg is serving his arse on a plate.
I don't think the physical demands were the same. Or the competitiveness with fitness from the other drivers.
