where do you get the $200m dollar figure from? i see nothing in that article that says they will be fined that amount. and should they be fined that much if it will put them out of business?

Well - the evidence (IF the article is accurate) puts them in far, far deeper than Mclaren.

Hence far bigger fine..... Mind you I was posing a qustion, not making an assertion....

hang on now let's not go crazy! if they lose points should the driver's lose thiers effectively stripping Alonso of the 06 title? if the FIA want to remain with rulings the driver's should keep thier points

Sorry - I'm being mis-understood slightly - a precedent has been set with the Mclaren fiasco that leaves drivers points intact. I was referring to constructors points, in line with previous decisions

Make an example of them, disqualify them from F1 permanently, the cheating will stop...

I think we knew from the start that the evidence against Renault was far more damning than the evidence against McLaren. Whilst Coughlan was wrong and Alonso and de la Rosa should never have put the trivial information they had in writing, the information Renault had was very useful, very much used, pervading the whole team.

The FIA, I'm afraid, have set the precedent: Renault will have to lose their constructors' championship points for this season and last, a huge financial penalty must be imposed, but their drivers should be allowed to keep their points.

Cheating is indemic in most sports - horse racing, athletics, cycling so on and so on, there are severe panalties but it doesn't seem to stop them from looking at more sophisticated ways of cheating.
All the FIA can do is impose severe panalties and step up its policing practices. Also the teams have to be more vigilant with their data, but that is a difficult one because you cant have a security guard, or even security cameras, watching every senior employee 100% of the time, and how many senior people would work that way anyway?

Good point. I think that they have started a train thats not easy to stop now. Mind you, its a gravy train for the FIA, so maybe they are quite happy.
