Saw this over on SPEED.
Robert Kubica has reportedly been able to stand and walk with assistance...

Robert Kubica is now well enough to leave the hospital, according to reports from the injured Renault driver's native Poland.

The news agency Polska Agencja Prasowa (PAP) said the Italian hospital has declared that Kubica, who suffered a horrific crash during a minor rally in early February, is no longer at high risk of infection in the wake of four serious surgeries.

The reports, also carried by Polish television TVN24, said Kubica will decide when to leave hospital but that it could happen "soon" — even in time for Easter.

A spokesman for the Santa Corona hospital in Pietra Ligure confirmed the reports, while Kubica's manager Daniele Morelli said the Pole could leave by the end of April.

The reports also said Kubica has been able to stand and walk with assistance, and will continue his rehabilitation with regular visits to clinics.

Renault team owner Gerard Lopez said last week that it is too early to be speculating upon a possible return to F1 for the 26-year-old.

"Robert at the moment must keep his focus only on his recovery," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

He's able to now walk, with assistance. That's good for him, but surely this rules him out of F1 for 2011 at least...

And 2012, probably. :(

i think of Kubica every day, i broke my wrist about 5 weeks ago..... thought at the most i'd miss Melbourne.... so far i've lost the first 3 rounds (would have been 4 with Bahrain) with no idea yet as to when mobility will be at least 90%........ the difficult thing is i got my cast removed yesterday and thought it was going to be normal right away. Fractures look well healed, but i dont even have 15% flexibility in my wrist/thumb. And from the looks of it, it will take at least 1-2 months to regain full mobility.

Every other day, i fear i may never regain full mobility... there's this optimism that everything will be fine, but only everyonece in a while i think what if this wrist stays stiff and painful as it is now?? its frustrating. i told the dr i should be ok as i've had a torn knee ligament and it worked out fine and so on... he said the hand is a whole different thing. Much more painful, much more difficult. Can't hellp but think of what is Kubica feeling, specially knowing he was going to ferrari next yr.

And all i broke (not even full open fractures like Kubica's) were 2 small bones in the hand/wrist and got some ligament damage while going at like 50 kph.............

Kubica is out for the season, possibly done with his career. his injuries were hardcore amongst hardcore.

it's scary even to look at as I see it on the screen, but he may never return to racing. In the end, Kubica and his family will be first and foremost thankful that he's alive.

I know how you feel F1ea since I've got a handful of bone related surgeries myself and I've become a walking gauge of pair, and can accurately predict barometric pressure based on my level of throb. :hehe:
