Dunno who Daughtrey is, but you were niave to think he could turn out well if hes been molested in any way shape or form by the Devil that is Simon Cowell.

If you had seen him on american Idol, he was amazing. Look up Chris Daughtrey Hemmorage on you tube. He really showed promise but sadly all he is, is vocals. Not much else.

i remember that show on mtv; they also played Serve the servants... and also The Breeders played a couple of songs there, right?

my fav Nirvana songs are: Serve the servants, Breed, Sliver, Lounge act... and actually, after the whole bomb-dust faded i find myself still loving Smells like teen spirit, that song deserved all the play it got........

Nirvana was pretty big... more or kess like B. Dylan, they showed one didnt need to be a great vocalist to send a message accross. I got a bit truned off from Nirvana after the death... i more or less understood his reasons, but i dont know, for some reason i felt his music was smarter/stronger than what he showed then, even to get involved with the talentless Cortney love.... i dunno, felt kinda let down.

Although what Kurt cobain and nirvana did was massive, in fact we're only recently recovering from that slap in the face... and you can tell by the likes of Justin bieber, Lady gaga & the rest of crappy acts dominating the charts.

:drink: this drink's for Kurt.

Teenyboppers going insane for Justin Bieber? Music is the same and most generations will claim that their generation's music was great and that music today will suck or inversely based taste that the music of yesteryear was so much better than the crap played on the radio today.

There is phenomenally good music/bands/songs that are released year after year, you just got to go looking for them as what is sh!t is the same boring drivel played on the standard generic top 40 music stations.

That being said, in my opinion, I'll put 1977 as the single greatest year for music released.

You had a culmination of the peak or birth of of musical genres, the height of disco, the birth of punk rock legends and the ever chugging classic rock bands of time. here's a sample of some of the songs out that year, I'll put it up to any other year in music!

Ca Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand
American Girl - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Baby Hold On - Eddie Money
God Save The Queen - The umpalumpa Pistols
I Feel Love - Donna Summer
I Want You To Want Me - Cheap Trick
Lust For Life - Iggy Pop
Lovely Day - Bill Withers
Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett
Native New Yorker - Odyssey
New York, New York - Frank Sinatra
Night Fever - Bee Gees
One Love - Bob Marley
Only The Good Die Young - Billy Joel
Paradise By the Dashboard Light - Meat Loaf
Psycho Killer - Talking Heads
umpalumpa and Drugs and Rock And Roll - Ian Dury
Sheena Is A Punk Rocker - Ramones
Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel
We Are The Champions - Queen
We Will Rock You - Queen
Paradise By the Dashboard Light - Meat Loaf
Lucille - Kenny Rogers
I'm So Bored With The USA - The Clash

I dunno, I don't think the hate on today's music is the "old fogey" syndrome for me. I think music since about 2004 or so, right around when linkin parks newest album started coming out just sucks. There are some cool tunes that sneak by, but nothing like what we will see again. I didn't really enjoy the 80s music, I love 50s60s70s music and of course 90s.

Sure Nirvana stands out above all else for me, but that's on a separate level.

I just realized that in less than a month Ayrton Senna will also died. The world lost two greats in 1994.

its not that today's music sucks... is that Nirvana effectively killed pop music. There has never been another time when the top 40 had such unlikely protagonists.......

i never got into the wave of bands that followed such as Pearl jam, soundgarden, alice in chains, nor the worst band ever Stone temple pilots yuck...... in fact, i never really stopped listening to 80's music.... but in general after Nirvana, the pop charts had no pop at all.....

That being said, in my opinion, I'll put 1977 as the single greatest year for music released.

i'll go even further.... to me, 1977 was the best yr ever!!
i was born that yr :P

Let me guess f1ea your favourite band is the cure :P don't be bagging stp :( personally the whole grunge era was huge for me as I was at that age in late primary to early high school where it was at it's biggest. But I was always more a pearl jam fan than nirvana, I preferred the more classic rock style over the punk of nirvana. Just saw Eddie Vedder solo last week! Was awesome!
Still loved nirvana though and was devastated when kurt died!
I just painted a portrait of Kurt finished it yesterday, posted it up on fb without realising it was the anniversary. Kinda trippy :hehe:

Pearl jam is good, i never really got way into them, but i know they are a good band. i did like the record with Spin the black circle (forgot the name), i had that one and Vs.

Soundgarden were also really good musicians. But STP..... oh man i couldnt stand them..... guess i definitely preferred the punk sound, from the grungy bands i liked Sonic Youth, Beastie boys, Dinosaur Jr, Teenage fanclub, the Pixies and others not really grunge like Nine inch nails, Tool, Ned's atomic dustbin etc

i really was into music.... still am i think.

wow that's strange... specially because people dont talk about him anymore, so you coming up with the portrait at such timing is freaky.... maybe you fell asleep listening to the radio and they mentioned the anniversary, got your subconscious.

I *said* MUSIC :hehe:

ah well, it was a good yr for music too ;)

Am I the only one here who's deaf to everything but alternative rock/metal? Any of the below ring bells for anyone?

A perfect circle (all time fav so far)
Tool
Sirenia
Cradle of Filth
Staind

Btw, Nirvana is a great band, I was hooked on smells like teen spirit album for almost half a year. Grunge hasn't completely died on me yet.

If APC was in town, I'd camp outside the arena for a week before their performance. Unfortunately, this country ain't cool enough to welcome the likes of them. I'd have to fly to watch their performance.

Nirvana was alright for me, a breath of fresh air for a while. But I was already leaning towards other styles more heavily...
