Just becasue a club was founded before another doesn't make the sport older.... that's just ludacrious to suggest. Look up a sport called "cuju" and you'll see how old REAL FOOTball first surfaced. Melbourne Heart F.C were founded in 2010, does that mean that just because they were founded after say, Curling was around, that the sport is older than football? Your argument is petty and not very well thought out.

You are however correct about Rugby, as both Football and Rugby were first played, in their traditional forms, around the same time. We're talking B.C years here.

Oh, I love how Australia's Mark Webber falls "soccer" footy too.

The argument was over the term football, and there in lies the term in different English speaking colonies or nations has different meanings. In Australia (I take it where youre from )Football has a couple of meanings, it can refer to Rugby if youre from Queensland or NSW or for the rest of the country Australians own football code.

Besides go research Soccers history, it was not even coded as a sport before Australian Football was. And I say again Rugby was called Football in England before Soccer was. :D

I cannot believe that out of all people you want to try and give me an English lesson. I konw all that -ise, ize etc stuff for crying out aloud. As for the coding of the sport and history, it matters little. Fact remains that in present day England, where English is from, it is called football. And as for Australia, it is officially called football now. Ie. The Football Federation Australia, Football Federation Victoria, Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory FC etc, etc, etc. None of these call it soccer. If you go to the games (as I remember when I was there), its always called football. The word soccer isn't ever mentioned. The idea of QLD and NSW having Rugby as football and the rest Aussie Rules may still be so, but frankly this will change. You cannot stop it. Especially with more kids now playing real footie in schools over Aussie Rules. And I onky care of now and in the future. Not the past. Its football in Australia now and defenitly football in England and thus the only correct name of the sport in the English language and the only way it should be taught.

No ifs or buts about it, what i said was factual.
Actually AKR there is no proper English, there are words spelt by Americans that were once common in England, such as words ending in ize, ise which in England and the rest of the commonwealth adopted the French ise well after America gained independence so aside from humor vs humour or color vs colour words Americans can say they speak the kings English better than the English

Don't believe anything I say about football or English well be my guest and google it! Btw Geelong FC was founded in 1859 when was the first Italian football club founded?

Part of my previous reply was actually to this post. As for Geelong FC. Older it may be, but history is in the past. Today is what matters as stated in my other reply.

My team are looking like they might get into the premiership for next season :) go Norwich City :D

P.S. It's football and it's not for girls :D

Bloody hell i hadn't noticed your lot sneak up into second there! We did you a favour by beating Swansea on saturday. :hehe: It's so close and congested though, especially if Burnley win their game in hand... you have to say Cardiff are one of the favourites to go up, simply given the quality of some players in their squad.

Yes you done us a big favour, some of the lads i go to England away games with are Derby season ticket holders.I owe them a pint in cardiff next weekend :D
Burnley slipped up last night which was another result. Not sure if we will make it but its been a great season thus far.Agree with you Cardiff will take some stopping.Although I've thought for 2/3 years Swansea are by far the best footballing team in the league, but as Arsenal show us that doesn't always win things.

Yup. Forest are pretty solid too. It's a far cry from the start of last season (7-1 loss to Colchester if i remember correctly?) for you guys!

The rules against speaking out against referees are ridiculous, it massively limits free speech and accountability.

There's clearly a difference between abuse/ lack of respect and criticism.

I prosume you're speaking about Alex Ferguson?.
If so look at it from other clubs points of view.If a decision goes against man U (if it's right or wrong) he goes off his head and moans about the ref all week in the press. The ref takes all the heat and stick. The next time he goes there he isn't going to give the decision due to the stress.

You see it time and time again the refs always favor the big clubs, because they all right a match report about the refs.If it's a club thats high up and big they get most things going.I have a friend that's a Tottenham season ticket holder and he can't believe how many more decisions go their way since they got in the champions league, that's his words not mine.

No, I'm talking about Wenger (Van Perci's sending off Barcelona game),

I think Fifia's position that the ref can do no wrong, is counter productive, it just means mistakes are highlighted even more, I'm not talking about going back and correcting decisions, but just admitting mistakes made etc.

I'm a Gunners fan and that ref needed to be shot! That game was clearly fixed just like 2 years ago in favor of Barca against Chelsea!
Barca is a very good squad but the way they benefit from refs is vile :thumbdown: so I f****** hate them and hope they never win CL.
I was wishing Wenger (one of the most respected coaches in football) would lay Bu-sucka OUT

You dont call it football because you are still 100 years behind. You do not want to move to the future but would rather live in the past. It matters not as the change is happening and you cannot stop what is on motion. By the way most of the Italians I knew loved your AFL and called that football and the real footie soccer. So please do not automatically say it is "the immagrants or sons and daughters of immigrants" that are different to you, as it clearly is not the case. And a lot of the people I knew who called the real footie football were Australians of English or Irish descent which is what commonly were known as the Aussies, rather than those of Italian, Greek, Croatian, Macedonian etc descent. Also on a different not, the presidant of the AFL is that Dimetrou guy. A Greek background person. The present of football federation Australia is of Anglo descent (cannot remember his name). So again do not give me this "Real Australian" bullpoo as I remember all too well who I hanged around with in my time and stay in Australia.
