Just becasue a club was founded before another doesn't make the sport older.... that's just ludacrious to suggest. Look up a sport called "cuju" and you'll see how old REAL FOOTball first surfaced. Melbourne Heart F.C were founded in 2010, does that mean that just because they were founded after say, Curling was around, that the sport is older than football? Your argument is petty and not very well thought out.
You are however correct about Rugby, as both Football and Rugby were first played, in their traditional forms, around the same time. We're talking B.C years here.
Oh, I love how Australia's Mark Webber falls "soccer" footy too.
The argument was over the term football, and there in lies the term in different English speaking colonies or nations has different meanings. In Australia (I take it where youre from )Football has a couple of meanings, it can refer to Rugby if youre from Queensland or NSW or for the rest of the country Australians own football code.
Besides go research Soccers history, it was not even coded as a sport before Australian Football was. And I say again Rugby was called Football in England before Soccer was.
I cannot believe that out of all people you want to try and give me an English lesson. I konw all that -ise, ize etc stuff for crying out aloud. As for the coding of the sport and history, it matters little. Fact remains that in present day England, where English is from, it is called football. And as for Australia, it is officially called football now. Ie. The Football Federation Australia, Football Federation Victoria, Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory FC etc, etc, etc. None of these call it soccer. If you go to the games (as I remember when I was there), its always called football. The word soccer isn't ever mentioned. The idea of QLD and NSW having Rugby as football and the rest Aussie Rules may still be so, but frankly this will change. You cannot stop it. Especially with more kids now playing real footie in schools over Aussie Rules. And I onky care of now and in the future. Not the past. Its football in Australia now and defenitly football in England and thus the only correct name of the sport in the English language and the only way it should be taught.
