Given that all of the teams are involved in some way with spying, that could yet happen, well, to all but one team anyway.

what has renault done wrong. an ex employee of mac had information with him when he came to work for them. unless they siolicited that information when he was at mac they are not to blame . it is a problem between mac and the ex employee. in the case of ferrari and mac employees at mac were actively soliciting information from an employee of ferrari .

so by what youre saying, if Stepney left Ferrari and got a job for McLaren and brought the 780 page dossier with him its alright to use it?

when you work for an employee anything you design or create belongs to that company, its not your property! even if this designer came up with it all, he wasnt allowed to bring the computer files with him to Renault for use!

i agree with most of what you say but what happens when an employee switches teams and uses his knowledge aquired to better the new team . is that cheating also. the point i am trying to put across is if renault solicited this information when he was an employee of mac or the employee of mac offered to switch teams and bring over the information then yes they are cheaters but if renault hired a person who was not an employee of another team and this employee had taken information from his previous employer that is not renaults problem. is it moral to use that information i will leave that up to you to decide but where has renault tried to cheat .

now in the case of mac and ferrari a high level employee of mac was in contact with an employee of ferrari and actively soliciting information of what was going on in ferrari.

what really surprises me of this argument is that if the chief designer of mac switches to renault and helps them design a new renault based on what he did at mac everything is legit but if he takes one drawing then renault are cheaters. i am probably wrong but i would think the knowledge he took with him would be more valuable than a drawing .

Uses whats in your head is one thing and thats why this whole F1 espionage saga is such a grey area!

But all it boils down to is the files that this engineer had were McLaren property just as the Ferrari dossier Coughlan had were Ferrari property.

The fact they found information on Renaults computers and not just at the house of an employee add to the fact if they actually used the information this could well be even bigger than McLarens case.

but this has always happened in F1 i wouldnt think of any punishment for this other than in the civil courts as you would in business, but since Ferrari went and cried to the FIA about Stepney and Coughaln the FIA has a moral right to punish Renault the same manner as they did with McLaren.

can of worms has been opened i keep sayin! FIA is shooting itself in the foot making more bad press with all this BS

There are two things one can say about that. It seems to be an unwritten rule that you can take your knowledge and expertise but cannot take a drawing. This to me makes all of these spy scandals so trivial and pointless. Information has been, is being, and will always be shared between teams in some form other. To me, the spy scandal was in part to get at Ron Dennis and McLaren and the FIA have inadvertently opened a can of worms. However, they have set the standard and will have to follow it.

they sure have opened a can of worms lets see what they do know to try to close it. i just hope they finish soon with all this and we can get back to racing.

i think we almost agree , i am not about to give jugdement on what the penalty should or shouldnt be and i am not going to argue if an employee leaving and taking information to another team is worse than when the members of a team actively solicits information from a member of another team but in my opinion they are 2 completly different matters.
