I don't think a clause of 'not letting his teammate beat him' is even writeable in a contract. There's no way to guarantee this.
Being the man the team puts the effort behind is possible, and its what the other teams do. But i'm sure the team demands something in exchange for this....... so its not a free ride to the top podium. And i'm sure this demand is beneficial to the team (or at least they think it is).
Preferential treatment in Alonso's case means not letting his team mate beat him. Being the man the team puts their efforts behind. Alonso is happy in this situation.
