The biggest problem with Newey's argument is that 2010 has demonstrated the Renault engine to be more "driveable" and "tractable" ot of slower corners....this means to me that the Renault engine produces more lower-end power at the expense of high end power like the Mercedes unit

It also showed that the engine blows up 3 races from the end of the season and almost gives you a heart attack.

A low top speed means that being competitive in places like Monza and possibly Spa gets very tough.

I think this year as he made a very slippery car with a good amount of down force which is something he has always done. Next year will be going to his weakness, because all the teams will have slippery cars and adjustable good downforce.

The thing about torquey motors doesn't wash with me.
These power plants can be dialed in while you drive as far as cam timing is concerned.
They can advance or retard spark timing also.
The renault motor just produced more HP / torque than the rest this year....period.
They managed to fill their cylinders with more fuel / air mixture than anyone else.
Watching Petrov keep Alonso at bay for that whole race should of told you the whole story.
Ferrari could not pass because they didn't have the ponies to pass.
Petrov on his best day couldn't keep up with Alonso on any course.

Why do you keep insisting that the Renault produced more power when it is common knowledge that it is worse especially compared to the Mercedes. Any advantage the Renault powered cars have had is in aero. In order to have equal pace they need an aerodynamically superior chassis. Just look at how dimished RBR's advantage was on power circuits compared to downforce circuits

In fairness, the Renault is down on power and I think the 2008 Italian Grand Prix (and indeed, the remainder of that season) did show this to some extent. The STR3 and RB4 were practically the same car, with the exception of a slightly different rear-end, but the Ferrari-powered Toro Rosso had the speed advantage and they finished the season ahead of the Red Bull team*. With that said, though, it is said to be a more drivable engine and has better fuel-efficiency. You can't have everything your way, right?

*I'm aware that this is partly due to Coulthard's terrible form throughout that year, but then you could say that if Bourdais hadn't had such bad luck, particularly at Monza and Spa, where he and Vettel were running third and fourth before the rain led to them losing places to cars that had fitted intermediates.
