I would have preferred Kimi, of course. He's one of my favorites. He's got tremendous talent, as well. Plus Kimi/Alonso at Ferrari would have been the team of the century. Kimi and Alonso are friends, it seems, and I doubt Kimi cares if hes a 'number 2' driver. He just drives. On the other hand, being the number 2 has shaken Massa.
Whether Ferrari preferred him, hard to say.
If Kimi appeared un-motivated towards the end of last season, I'm sure it had something to do with Ferrari's poor car development. I don't believe they brought any updates for like the last 6 or 7 races. I wouldn't be too thrilled to drive a half-year old car in F1, either.
IMO, F1 missed Kimi this year. Talent wise, Kimi and Alonso are in a class of their own, in some respects (though, it's hard to evaluate drivers in lesser rides).
As for Massa, I feel bad for him. Mentally, he's down. Hasn't had it since the crash, hasn't had it since be became the second child at Ferrari. I've seen spurts this season, which, to me, indicates he still has the talent. I hope he can get it together at Ferrari or elsewhere for next season.
