If they're currently talking about pulling Porsche from LMP1, they're going to want to put it somewhere else.
From a what you get back from your investment, there is perceived value in the cachet of F1 that value pays more for an upscale or performance brand than it did for Honda and Toyota. The exodus of all the manufacturers had a lot to do with the global economic downturn, more so than what the actual cost of the sport.
The more a brand can leverage F1 to sell cars the more they see it as advertising budget as well as R&D. Porsche will be the brand they bring back if they choose to dive in.
