For me; it seems odd to have the gear stick on the right, I'm used to driving with my left hand on the gearstick and right hand on the wheel, I'm not sure I could drive a manual here in the US; it just feels odd with my right hand on the gear stick, even holding the wheel with my left hand seems completely unnatural!

It's just what you get used to, I can't even imagine shifting left handed. The way things are going now though I can see manual transmissions going the way of the dodo in another decade with every high performance car having paddle shift double clutch electronic transmissions.

really?? i would think its easier to steer than it is to shift precisely, i sometimes even steer with my knees (kids, don't try this at home) also, the same with accel/decel, i think it takes a bit more precision to both these actions, while the clutch is sometimes not even used. There's a nice resting spot for the lazy left foot on auto trans. Also, turning the ignition with the left hand...

But i'm sure the arabs will tell you its a lot easier to write right to left than left to right...... (meaning its all a matter of getting used to).

Since you ask this... How are the pedals arranged in left-driving cars?
clutch / brake / accel or are your pedals mirrored too (ie accel / brake / clutch)??

Wow, imagine your first time driving on the other side, make a bit of a mistake and forget which side of the road you're meant to be on and having to make an emergency stop with the pedals round the wrong way!

I personally brake with my right foot as you would in a manual; I even have a nice fake clutch pedal to rest my left foot on in my car!

I believe that the brake gets priority over the accelerator in most cars these days if both are used together! Of course I could be wrong about that, I have never used the brake and accelerator at the same time. Although I did get freaked out when first driving an automatic; didn't expect the car to start moving without any throttle being used!

So you'd prefer to change gears correctly over control of the car!? Ok...

And if you think keep right traffic is the correct way think again, it all began in the French revolution where the people chose to change anything to do with the monarchy including the side of the road they would drive their horse and carts. Then thanks to napoleons expansions spread this throughout Europe. Ofcourse the USA chose the same path in their revolution, distancing themselves from Britain, and duckling up to their French ally!
