The ignorance of some people on here is ridiculous!

After the German GP Red Bull Racing had approx 33 overtakes, compared to Mclaren's 37, Mercedes 29 and Ferrari's 58!

Driver breakdowns are available too if anybody is interested.

Most of these will be cars out of position due either to pitstops or poor qualifying (or team mates pulling over). It would be interesting to see how the statistics stack up on actual like for like cars overtaking for position.

Well, thats what you get when safety cars and Williams decide they don't like Ferrari, oh and Ferrari get their tryes wrong in quali, one of em crashes the car in practice, spins around on the first corner after contact with his team mate, ex driver swipes his old team mate still driving for the team, couple of very strong starts combined with some poor redbull ones and a driver who thinks he's going to come out on top when trying to squeeze the teams number one driver (for this season at least).

It would be interesting, but unfortunately it wouldn't show anything useful because if you are going to do that, then you should take into account so many other variables/factors as well - therefore by the time you actually get a figure, it will be fairly meaningless. In the same way as these overtaking figures that have been posted are relatively ambiguous and pretty likely to be out of context.

Actually, I think the Red Bull front wing needs to be banned cause when they do go to overtake the aerodynamics seem to go haywire and send them into other cars. Look at Mark in Australia and Sebastian in Turkey.

I think it's unreasonable to think those accidents can solely be attributed to having flexing bodywork. Especially that Turkey accident!

Take a look at this.

Yamamoto does a lot fo overtaking

[ivey]

overtakes for 15th and 16th place don't really count in my opinion, as we're talking about top teams. Appareantly Vettel and Webber have combined for 2 overtakes in top3 positions.

[vaptin]

When has Jenson overtaken two people for first position? I genuinely can't remember, the only Lewis one I can remember is in Canada?

Also, does that graph still count, say Alonso overtaking Vettel in Bahrain or the Mclaren's overtaking Vettel in Turkey despite reliability problems?

I guess they counted Lewis' overtake over Webber in SPA start which eventually led him to victory

They can't be counting starts, it doesn't cover any of Alonso's overtakes at the start on Massa in Bahrain and Vettel in Germany,

The raw data is misleading. As Ivey says, overtakes by 'front runners' of 'back markers' at the back of the field are not comparable to passes near the front. To mean anything, the records must be weighted.

As someone said elsewhere, bare statistics can be presented to give any result you want.

I think this was during those wet races at the start of the season when the leader pulled into the pits and Jenson (already on rain tyres) overtakes the leader in the pitlane.

Oh, in that case those statistics aren't accurate at all since I think we're talking about on track overtaking?

Thats because Vettle keeps crashing and overtaking back makers.

He can't deal with the pressure of overtaking if its an easy one then its ok but put him against a top 5 driver and he goes to peices.

I consider Robert Kubica as a top 5 and he was over taken by webber!

Gaz has a point!
