Nice plot.

So Mclaren are advising the FIA on how to perform tests... that's a nice one
They know what the concept is. Even some people here knew what it was more or less about. I'm sure the Macca engineers are at least slightly better than us here ;) hehe

The thing is they know they can't copy/implement it (like the Blown diffuser) in the remaining races, so they're going to try and get it banned.

Welcome to the World of Formula 1, nothing new there, if a team shows some innovation and benefit from it; all the other teams try to get it banned, that's F1 life!!!

Correction, all the other teams try to copy it... if they can't copy it then they challenge it. Some challenges like the DD diffuser go by the wayside and the teams are forced to copy it. This one as you point out, can't be copied, at least not in the little time left to the season. The thing here is that it goes beyond finding a loophole in the rules and downright breaking the rules while the car is in motion. Unlike the F-duct what Red Bull found here was a way to implement an illegal component by finding a way to circumvent the tests. I applaud them for the ingenuity and creativity, but it doesn't mean that it isn't illegal.

Like doping in cycling, it's not doping if you don't get caught, (because the testing isn't sophisticated enough to catch it) but it is still illegal.

My point is valid; teams have always tried to get other teams innovations banned, especially if it gave them an advantage. It's just coming to the fore now; before it was all behind closed doors and the public never heard about it. Usually, it's complain about it, claim its illegal while attempting to make their own version in case it doesn't get banned! Either it contravenes the rules or it doesn't. Red Bull haven't circumvented the tests, the test was clearly laid out and the front wing passed the test, McLaren are just jealous because they didn't think about it first and now don't have enough time before the end of the season for R&D to create something similar!

I bet you it doesn't show up on the cars next year because the rules are "clarified". So there are technical breakthroughs and then there is skirting the legalities of rules. I'm not arguing the advantage of one versus another and they can both be just as effective/efficient and gaining a team valuable time. I'm stating that "true" technical innovation is adopted, where innovation that skirts the legality of a rule and isn't in the spirit of it (remember the too big starter motor hole) generally gets banned the next season.

^ It was the same with the F-duct, thats getting banned next year, and kers cos most teams couldn't figure out how to work it effectively.

Although, whatever Redbull are doing might be illegal,

Yeah. Excatly. I never said there was anything wrong or bad about it. Just that that's what the plot is about.

Because once they found out what it was about, they still have to see that they can implement it themselves in their platform/chassis succesfully before losing out in a few races.

Not really. Not even half as much as its killing Mclaren and their fans not to have the flexi wing...

Or may worsen if the RBs pass the new test. Ouch. That'll sting.

Ferraris in the points rear view mirror is the best pain killer.

Are Ferrari and RBR's front wings actually similar?

Because sometimes people talk about RBR's front wing, but sometimes they talk about RBR and Ferrari's front wing.
I guess they both flex, so why people seem to talk more about RBR's one?
