Senna sure as hell could out qualify Alonso or Hamilton over the course of a season... who is to say that isn't a very real possibility? :-|

And who is to say that it is

That's exactly my point really.

:rofl::rofl:

Yeah, it is hilarious when fanboys make ridiculous and unsubstantiated claims eh?

Well no, I dont think its ridiculous to say lewis could be the greatest ever- its been said by far more qualified experts than 'fanboys'. I was laughing because we were saying the same thing in different ways..How to substantiate it.

:hehe: Now im just confused....past my bedtime i think.

I honestly dont' think that any driver dead or alive and in their prime can beat Hamilton in the same car over a season. Lets be realistic If Senna was here now he would have a VERY rough time. Remember, Senna was beatable by his team mate over a season, while from what i remember Hamilton has never been beaten by his team mate, why even Schumacher was beaten over a season by his team mate before.

I'm fan of Senna and Hamilton but Senna always my hero. But let me say this.We speak about different eras, different cars, different drivers..Of caurse talent is always talent but it's difficult for anyone to prove that Hamilton>>Senna/Prost/Clark/Lauda with a 2010 car or Senna/Prost>>>>>Fangio with a 1960 car..

I never once said that Hamilton would beat Senna. I said Senna would have a VERY rough time. Senna was beatable by another elite driver (Alain Prost) so it is entirely possible for him to be beaten by Hamilton who is also an elite driver.

The team mate argument could be applied to Alonso.

He was beaten already. "Blown away" :hehe:

Can Hamilton be beaten by another elite driver team mate over a season? Not in my opinion. You can't beat a machine. 8-)

This is freakin ridiculous. If Senna comes back, he's going to be beaten by EVERY SINGLE DRIVER on the grid today. Period.

Schumacher took a 4 year sabbatical and looks like a rookie learning the ropes again. If Senna comes back from the dead (RIP) from those ancient cars, and assuming his muscles, reflexes and eyesight are at their prime again (not taking decomposition into account) he is going to have to change his driving style completely to even start challenging any driver today.

This thread has taken a turn towards :bs: street. The title is which active driver has the potential to ........why bring up drivers from more than a decade ago...it's insane. What about Mika? Jacques? Etcetcetc. Let's just keep it simple and not compare active drivers to retired ones, let alone ones that do not exist anymore.

These fanboy/fangirl threads are pointless.

I personally would say Hamilton is the best, but thats just my view.

There is no way to be able to tell whos better than who... You would get a bit of an idea setting them all in the same car around 10 different tracks with 10 different setups... we would see a bit of an order but still there is things to take into account like is the track green....etc

Just give up guys and girls :banghead:

Who active F1 driver has the potential to be the Greatest ever?IMO Senna is the Greatest.
From this generation I think Hamilton is the only who has a small chance to challenge Senna/Schumacher/Fangio for the "Greatest ever"..

i totally agree, ayrton senna was and is still the best racing driver ever, and tragically taken away!, but i think Lewis hamilton and sebb have the potentail to ge close the amazing skills of ayrton!, what do you think ayrton would make of Lewis and sebb? :)
#210699
I say Hamilton and Alonso have the best chance.
Based on pure driver skill.
In equal cars, those two could beat anyone racing today.... period.
The cars today are soo equalized with the exception of RB that no one can stand out from the pack except those two.
In senna's days and to some extent the Ferrari days of Michael, the cars were not so equal as they are today with the choking of the FIA involvement.

Imo/in my eyes only Hamilton is close to Senna at driving skills.Vettel isn't a "Sennanesque" type driver.Lewis is the closest thing to Ayrton...Vettel will be great but as a talent Hamilton even from his rookie year was phenomenal.
Hamilton is the best talent since Senna imo.
As I said Senna is the greatest ever...Imo Hamilton is the only who has a small chance to surpass Ayrton...

I have a slightly different take on 'best driver ever' and it was watching the recent athletics events that got me thinkinhg. Its difficult to compare drivers even in the same era because they are all in different cars. The car is a neccessary part of the achievements. In other events there is no machine, just the athlete/sportsman.In these cases times continually fall as athletes are better trained, better preparerd , prepared from an earlier age, more aware of diet and how bodies work etc etc. Its the same for drivers. They start younger and have a far more intensive training than drivers from previous eras, many of whom didnt start driving until much later in life. Skills learnt and honed in childhood are going to be much sharper than skills learnt and honed in adult life. On that basis the best of the current crop is always going to be the best ever. Im talking absolute best of the current crop here, not someone who can do it in one off situations but someone who can consistently punch above his/her weight.

Its impossible but it would be brilliant to see the best of all eras at their peek, altogether with machines from all those eras. Give them three days to play around with the cars and then they race each other in all those different cars.

I know who I'd have my money on without question. But there are two other drivers that I'd love to watch and have my theory proven wrong.

 Who might that be???

Well, no surprises I voted for Vettel. :wavey:

Hamilton could be as well. But the future of Grand Prix racing is Hamilton and Vettel, with Kubica in tow. And you want a modern-day Senna-Prost pairing? Imagine Hamilton and Vettel on the same team. The rivalry would be absolutely fierce. 1989 all over again. :cloud9:

Vettel is fast. Webber is also a great driver. Only now can Webber show how great he is. But I doubt Webber will we even have another season to prove himself. This is Webber's year. :)

Oh. And Nelson Piquet Jr. as well. :wavey:

Also, someone earlier said that Kubica and Alonso would be a dream pairing. I don't think so. Alonso is a wuss. He cannot tolerate his team mate being better than him. But then, neither could Senna, Shumacher, anyone else?

But the fact that Alonso expects his team mates to move out of the way (rather selfish when the team is already guaranteed a 1-2) rather than having the balls to overtake them doesn't sit right in my books. First with Hamilton, then Piquet, and now Massa. I don't know what Alonso was like in his Renault days, I wasn't following F1.
