There is no question that it was a poorly thought out move and deserving of the penalty that was issued. With that said, all of you who have hated the man for years on end who are saying he needs to retire, be drawn and quartered etc are being rather silly. We've seen moves like this before from many a desperate driver that went unpunished. This one was over the line and he was punished for it....but lets not rant and rave like this was some kind of horrid thing that is never seen in F1. It wasn't. And for the record, if Rubins had contacted the wall, it would have torn off both wheels and he would have slid to a stop past the pit lane.....we've seen far far worse crashes than that would have been with no injury to the driver. Still, it was a stupid move by Schuey and he was penalized heavily for it. End of. Move on.
Silly? for years I have watch him commit offense after offense, many as dangerous as this one, without punishment, while his team hands him points en large with subservient teammates and with treating the sport like a chess game creatively interpreting the rulebook or seeing what they can get away with then trying to win those points in a courtroom. Ferrari by this behaviour puts the sport in disrepute. some of this could be viewed as cheating. Rascasse parking, ramming Hill, ramming JV, parking damaged car on the racing line to force a restart, taking stop go penalty on the end of the last lap, after the finish line, repeated startline lunges straight into the opponent banking he will blink first, moving over more than once, closing the door too late, there are too many to list. Yet anytime MS is on the losing end of a battle or incident he whines and bi+ches like a little girl.
There's no way you can say what would have happened had RB touched the wall. Nice minimizing. Anything could have happened. It could have become entangled with MS's car. Anything. Something unspeakable. It's as likely as the benign scenario you propose. You don't know.
Had this been his first offense I would say, oh well, it was bad and he got his penalty. Lots of drivers commit offenses. sometimes they get penalized, sometimes not. They don't apply enforcement with any consistency.
But it wasn't his first offense and nobody does it like MS. I never favour any driver over another so I never really cared about it. Mostly I was amused by it. But it gradually gets worse and I have been pushed over my tipping point. With him still on the track the other drivers are in mortal danger.
