Nah he was told over the radio just before Kubica came in to the pits to retire that he would have to let Kubica back through.
Although there were several problems in that anyways since Kubica was at that time 2-3 places behind Alonso meaning Alonso would have lost 2-3 places anyways.
Fact is as people have said he should have let Kubica back through instantly and tried again but Alonso did his usual arrogant self obsessed bullpoo he usually does and thought he could get away with what was clearly a illegal pass, its sad because his temper once again cost him points and if i was Ferrari i would stop blaming other people for what Alonso is doing and try to get his temper in check or no matter how much improvement they put on the car hes always going to mess it up.
Still, the s*** luck was there. If kubica diddn't break down they would've just swapped over. But no, Alonso had to get a damn penalty just after a safety car.
Sorry, that doesn't hold water. You're supposed to give the place back 2-3 corners after the unfair advantage. The penalty would still be applied.
