He can maybe ignore it but for PR reasons he wouldn't. The worst that would happen is there'd be an outstanding warrant on him in OZ. If he did that here he would get a ticket that he can pay by mail or even online, unless he chooses to plead not guilty. I'm guessing we don't have that type of legal connection with whatever country he lives in(for more serious matters it would be called an extradition treaty but for traffic I don't know what you call it) like my province has with most Eastern US states. It means if I get a ticket in NY and ignore it, it affects my driving record in my home province. I don't know, where does he live, Monaco? Even if they can affect his record there, I bet the government there would tell them to sod off. They coddle their celebrities there.

Switzeland he lives. Geneva.

I don't think they put out arrest warrants for traffic tickets.

I dunno, they took his car off him for spinning it's wheels and now he's up in court, and they want to stop everyone looking at internet pr0n so, you never know.

Jeez this is very worrrying :irked: Cant he just pay money ,say sorry(he's done that already!)and move on. Its not like he's done a really bad thing, not even as bad as speeding and everyone does that!

Just be thankful he wasn't eating an apple at the time, or blew his nose when he was parked. That caan really land you in trouble, well, in the UK at least.

This should have been such a simple situation for any standard hot head boy racer..... turns out its turned into a silly publicity stunt by the AUS police just because they were able to get a famous hot head

Go to court, plead guilty, pay the fine, get a boring lecture.... That should be it. Now its probably going to be on some tabloid paper next to Paris Hilton latest adventure :yawn::yawn:

What I find most funny is that he was charged with "voluntarily losing control of his vehicle" - which is a contradictory statement; if he was voluntarily losing control doesn't that suggest that he was in control? Does that mean every time I get a bit of wheelspin on a slippery surface, I am breaking the law? :yikes:

If you lived in Victoria, then yes sir.
The town I live in, Bendigo, is the 'hoon capital of Aus' according to Police.
I ended up in court for wheel spin at traffic lights in wet conditions. Absoloutely dillusional is the best way to describe the hoon laws this state has. Mind you, it's okay for police to thash their Holden VE Commodores that all tax payers have paid for. Complete hyprocracy!

Lewis Hamilton is unlikely to travel to Australia to attend a court hearing over a driving offence.
The McLaren driver has been charged with "intentional loss of control of a motor vehicle" after he performed stunts in his loaned Mercedes on the eve of the Australian GP earlier this year.
His court date, which has been set for 24 August at the Melbourne Magistrate's Court, is just a few days before the Belgium Grand Prix.
However, according to Telegraph Sport Hamilton is unlikely to attend the hearing and 'his punishment will amount to a small fine which can be paid by a local lawyer on his behalf'.
