Webber and Massa/Kubica...?!

I called it, sorta... :P

Robert Kubica = ridiculously good.

:banghead: I got up in the morning just for Q, only to find Alonso being an spectator. That was lame.

Webber and the Red Bull did it again... and frankly, it definitely does look like the title fight will be decided only by RB's reliability. They were not "up there" until Q3... and then they both gunned it :whip:

Of course, the hero of the day is Kubica. That guy is doing an amazing job.

The race will be good.

Actually I think it won't be only on their reliabilty, they weren't so dominant in the qualifying, I don't see them being better with race pace, it's going to be interesting to see if Renault has the pace, we do know that McLaren and Ferrari have it

Indeed; Robert Kubica was the surprise of the weekend; seems that Renault have brought a decent car to the races this season. I would be happy to see Kubica win; although I expect Mark to lead from start to finish; Lewis will probably crash out making a rash move after getting frustrated behind other cars. Jenson will have another solid finish maybe fourth to just about hold onto his championship lead with Alonso out of the running for big points.

I called it around the time of the first race. That Renault would be fast around Monaco, because they have a more fuel efficent engine, thus a smaller fuel tank thus a shorter wheelbase. :D Happy to be of service

But none the less. Today quali was more about getting one clean lap. The probelm was that people were doing fastest first and second sectors and then finding traffic in the last sector. Then when they went again the tyre's weren't at their best. It wasn't just finding a gap, it was finding a gap at the right time.

The only two who really seemed to manage that were Webber and Kubica. But take nothing away from that, both were supreme today.

Exactly, the Red Bull were not dominant and still got a 1-3. If this was not their track and they managed that result... what will happen in their tracks is completely demolishing, as they have already shown.

In Monaco race pace doesnt matter much, unless there were some strategy options and no safety cars. Which there aren't and its unlikely. So unless there's a crash or something out of the ordinary, Webber should win the race and Vettel have a good pts finish/podium. But this is the interesting part... there is a good probability of having a chaotic race, and it could play in the hands of the guys behind...

Now that Kubica's within this chance I really hope he wins, it would be a memorable win.

He can do it i think, if he can stay with Webber at the start he can always pit early and try and jump him that way, it won't matter so much if he has to do ~60 laps on the hards cause it'll be mega hard for anyone to overtake, even if the tyres are pretty wrecked. Of course, how much each driver took out of their tyres in Q3 is going to be absolutely crucial tomorrow, i think - if Kubica took a lot out of them today he might struggle to stay anywhere near Webber in the first stint... and it seemed to me like Kubica did more flying laps than others in Q3.

Didn't he do most of those on the first (and I think, used) set, though?

Interesting little bit:
P2-P8 are about 0.5 sec apart
Mark is 0.3 sec ahead of P2...

The field is extremely close from P2-P8, but Mark is really far ahead... He banked a superb lap, right when he had to.

So if the RB can keep this pace in the race (ie on heavy load), I doubt Kubica will be able to keep it close; meaning there will be quite a little train of all the more or less equally fast cars right behind Kubica, with Mark pulling away. SC will change that...

 Yeah i forgot they could actually change tyres in Q3 anyway. Which i think is stupid and defeats the point of that rule change, but that's a debate for another time and place...

That's sort of what I'm afraid of. Lewis is a hell of a driver but him retiring early is always well within the realm of possibility, either by rotten luck with a mechanical or tire failure (like last weekend) or by him pushing too hard or being too aggressive. My gut is telling me that he won't finish the race, one way or the other, and it wouldn't at all surprise me if he gets caught up in some carnage at the start of the first lap. Then Button will gain even more points and build an even larger lead over Hamilton in the championship, again not by out-driving Hamilton but by having more dumb luck.
