MF wrote the same crap in an earlier thread saying something like other than being the oldest team Ferrari has nothing else that distinguishes them - repeating it doesn't make it truer. Where is Lotus now? Ferrari just this season came up with an ingenious way to exploit the floor rules - they were called back by the FIA (after being ratted on by spies) and the FIA changed the rules to make that design illegal from then on (reminds me of Colin Chapman's dual-chassis). Ferrari also introduced the wheel covers. But where they really excel is the passion for racing. Compare that to the rather sterile and analytical atmosphere at McLaren - just read between the lines of KR's statement.
It's not crap. It is true. Some people fall over themselves about Ferrari and give them more credit than they're really due. I would be lying if I said Ferrari were not important in Formula One's history, because they are. What they aren't is
the focal point of the sport. Passion and romance is nice from teams, however, it's ground-breaking innovation from teams that has propelled Formula One forward. Without Cooper, Lotus etc. who knows where Formula One and motor racing in general would be. The idea you mention DD was a nice touch for sure, however, it's hardly up there with rear-engined cars, downforce, V-type torsion bar suspension , carbo fibre, turbochargers etc., is it. McLaren being the sterile team people make it out to be is a myth. When McLaren get down to work, yes, then they are 'rather sterile and analytical', however, after hours they can fun like anybody else. There are a number examples of this, one from Montoya who even had to concede this. If Raikkonen likes things better at Ferrari that's his prerogative. They have their way, McLaren have theirs. If you don't like a team's approach, don't join them. The McLaren way has made it the most successful team in Formula One per years existed with the most dominant Formula One car ever built, with ten constructors' championships and eleven drivers' championships. They must be doing something right, I'll tell you that.
