The track at Silverstone is fine they are building new pits for the Moto GP couldn't they be used for other motorsport while they replace/upgrade the F1 paddock and pits?

Silverstone chiefs the BRDC, have revealed a new £45 million infield complex aimed at making the Northamptonshire circuit "the best in the world". The changes - funded by the BRDC, leaseholders Octogan and Bernie Ecclestone - will be ready for the 2003 season.

Described as the biggest makeover in 52 years, Sir Jackie Stewart, President of the BRDC and Rob Bain, Chief Executive of Octagon Motorsports, hailed the master plan as "a revolutionary step forward for British Motorsport". Both expressed their confidence that by 2003 Silverstone would be competing at a world-class level, with state-of-the-art facilities for the media, teams and spectators.

Renowned circuit specialist Hermann Tilke, who designed Malaysia's Sepang circuit, has designed the new layout, which sees the track turn right and bypass the Abbey chicane into a new infield section. However, the most dramatic changes will involve shifting the pits complex to a new position on the straight linking Club and Abbey corners, while oval-style banking will be added to Club corner itself to provide an added dimension to racing.

2003 :hehe: Its not so ready by the looks of things.

By that reckoning, we might not see such renovations next year. Then again, clearly something made Bernie change his mind about coming to Silverstone. Clearly the new buildings and layouts are that.

I was waiting for someone to notice that! LOL these plans have been floating around for soooo long now that I doubt if they'll ever see the light of day!

The new plans suck.

They can upgrade the buildings if they want, but leave the track as it is. Thanks.

I've posted this before, but for those of you who haven't seen it, this is what Silverstone would look like if Tilke fully had his own way.

Seriously, that does look very like something he would design. All of Tilke's trademarks (straight lines; long, continuous bends, etc) are there.

LOL, like they'd let him do that to maggots and becketts even though he would probably give it a shot. When the news came out that Silverstone might be back on this thought came to me also that some changes should be made to the track but with so many fantastic corners and such a flowing track it's difficult to see what could be changed and the only part I can imagine would be the small section between bridge and luffield. Those plans are like that but they lose bridge which would be a shame.

I dont think the changes would improve the circuit. The circuit is mostly high speed corners, and the only bit that is slower they are taking out and replacing it with more high speed circuit?

Surely being a high speed circuit is a good thing.

To be honest when it comes to Silverstone I'm more worried about the weather than the circuit's layout.

Silverstones Layout as current is very good, It's got its own sort of style. The new track layout however I was very sceptical about but the new layout is actually pretty damn good we should be able to see some better fights rather than sneaky overtakes on corners... I personally prefer the fights on the straight where they weave like mad :P

Donnington's layout looks good however it to me seems more suited towards bikes... they need some better straights and some better corners into the straights
