Lets not forget Japan's "Shinkansen" network. One of the best in the world, although I think some of the trains are kinda ugly.

The British government are looking to build a national high speed rail network which would be good. i use the trains a lot and it is annoying but I think it's my favourite way to travel medium distances, you see so much more from trains than you do from motorwaysOh right on. California is planning on making a high speed rail network that goes from Los Angeles to San Francisco, but I'll believe it when I see it. They've been talking about doing that for years.
