. People never use rail to travel here. It's hella expensive.

Thats odd. It's pretty cheap here, the problem is that its sloooooooow. A 4 hour trip by car would take 6 hours by train, if its on schedule.

The rail service is shoddy in the UK compared with the rest of Western Europe. The British government are looking to build a national high speed rail network which would be good. i use the trains a lot and it is annoying but I think it's my favourite way to travel medium distances, you see so much more from trains than you do from motorways

Oh right on. California is planning on making a high speed rail network that goes from Los Angeles to San Francisco, but I'll believe it when I see it. They've been talking about doing that for years.

Lets not forget Japan's "Shinkansen" network. One of the best in the world, although I think some of the trains are kinda ugly.

if you had had my expieriences you wouldnt! thats why.. the japanese ones, now they are amazing!

From what I've read, they're rarely ever late too. I don't think they look good though. France's TGV, now thats a good looking train!

i think the bottom pic of the jap train looks awesome, really looks like an actual bullet, the top one, not so good!

the lines my way are terrible, [thus demonstrated by a car being quicker!]

Britain had a comprehensive rail network system until Dr Beeching had a brainwave

Did you guys have similar turning point in rail?

Late 50's when the interstate system was being built, and commercial air travel was starting to become the norm. I read that you Brits made a brand new steam engine called 'the Tornado.'

I agree the top one reminds me of a platypus :hehe:

I like the bottom one because it looks streamlined. Streamlined steam engines look cool too.

joie de vivre means the joy of living, its the French equivalent of 'lust for life' i guess. i really love Cuban Art Deco architecture, I think that whole era was a wonderful age for design of clothes, furniture, cars, trains, buildings, liners, the lot!

Love trains, always have since I was a kid, love the noise and the motion and lets not forget that childish amazement that it can actually stand up on those rails. There's also something very grand about the stations. The logisitcs as well has always interested me, pulling into liverpool street and watching the other lines all joining up side by side.

people who complain about the tube in london have never been on a bus there.
