I did not recieve the "Chkdsk on on a next start-up" when I just restarted my computer? I do have my 'reinstillation CD for Windows XP Home Edition' and thanks for the link aswell. Do I need to remove Windows XP from my computer before doing the reinstall?? Also when I 'restart' to do the reinstall do I use the F8 tab for the reboot process??
Sorry for all the questions but I'm not a 'puter person so I need all the help I can get.
Thanks,
tex
Press the 'Windows' (>.<) key on your keyboard along with the R key and when the box pops up, type 'cmd' and hit enter. Then when the black box pops up, type 'chkdsk' and hit enter.
Just did that and recieved this message:
'Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in 'read-only' mode' ?
It should give you an option to run "Chkdsk on on a next start-up" then you just reboot and let windows do its thing! In Windows it runs in READ ONLY mode because the disk is being used by the OS hence can't rearrange data and mark bad sectors.
