I aswell was thoroughly impressed by Kobayashi's performance. :)

me too - his driving style almost appeared to me like webber and truli. - maybe just me

Well for a while when Button was behind him he was creating his own version of the Trulli-train. :hehe:

I SAID THAT! :hehe:

I am still confused by how this guy has done so well in his 2 F1 races but been medioca in the feeder series' it makes a bit of a mockery of them really!

I think it probably shows that Trulli was off the pace for the last two races and that the Toyota was decent at those two circuits. I think a lot of it has to do with psychology too. He had absolutely nothing to loose and he drove like it. The other rookies this year have been very cagey, except for Grosjean who has simply overdriven.

I suppose. You could also say that he stress managed the situation better and it worked.

yup. for me, the most impressive thing about him was his calmness. he didn't seem to flap under pressure at all.

All in all he was impressive

The Speed Network commentators mentioned that the setup of GP2 cars are, I can't remember for sure, more or less tailored to the driver. I guess they were basically saying that his GP2 car(s) was not suited for him and didn't have the flexibility that a F1 car has.

I can't really comment any more on it, but it seemed to be a big reason why he has done so well in so little time.

I don't see or understand why some of you really don't like Kamui is it because he's a newcomer doing better than some of your favourite drivers? Give him a rest, he is bound to make a mistake or two just like the other newcomers to F1.

He is in my opinion what F1 needs more of, people who attack and defend with everything they have.

The battle with Button at Interlagos was great, a newcomer taking on the potential new world champion and defending his position without breaking any rules, there were two points on the track where button needed to have some bigger balls to overtake him, he was chickening out a lot and started getting agitated.

He couldn't get past him so he decided to try and get an easy way around the situation by complaining of Kamui of moving more than once, from watching replays I couldn't nor could the stewards see that Kamui was moving more than once, he was just driving better than button at the time. If you were to put Lewis, Vettel or Alonso in the same boots as Button at that stage they would of taken him quite early.

After button was told Kamui was not doing anything wrong and told how to overtake him he eventually managed to get past, by breaking late and moving right a bit and then back in left on the first corner.

The incident with Nakajima was fine, Kamui held his ground and kept driving like he should and Nakajima didn't know when to back off and try another way to get past.

Abu Dhabi he managed to to take button really well, he took him like a pro.

Yep, we've seen people do much worse on their first race. We've also seen people do much worse 6 or 7 years after their first races. Happens

I think the rumour about him going to Lotus sounds pretty sound. Toyota mention they might help their drivers find seats elsewhere for next year. Would make sense to see Truili and Kobayashi in the same car next year. To have an Asian driver for a Malaysian team isn't too bad. It's not like Fariuz Fauzy will be good enough.

This is a quote from Kobayashi.com
The pilot Kamui Kobayashi of Toyota saw his future of 2010 was in danger in spite of having surprised all with his driving in only two big disputed GP. Toyota’s exit of the F1 was removing him from the competition, but Lotus is interested in him.
“Obviously, I have lost my place in Toyota. But I am near signing an agreement for 2010 since there are four new equipments(teams) and many options”

As for Kobayashi doing badly in the lower categories. He was okay. Italian Formula Renault champion. Then 4th in F3 euroseries behind Grosjean, Buemi, and Hulkenburg (not bad for such an incredibly competitive year) But when it came to Gp2 the car just must have not suited him. But Gp2 Asia Champion wasn't too bad.

But it doesn't say much that form in GP2 doesn't translate into speed in F1.

I thought he did great and loved that he didn't back down from the big names while driving around the circuit, not to mention he's well spoken and humble in interviews. I hope he lands a F1 gig.

Maybe Manor or some time that is just starting up could do with this driver as i have to admit he does have talent and has proved that.
