Thought I'd add my own thoughts to this. My opinion is that at the top end, Kubica is capable of more than Heidfeld. Once he gets a sniff of a podium he can go hell for leather and beat anybody, however if he's mid-grid, or low points he's always in danger of losing interest and fading into obscurity. Heidfeld on the other hand, whilst not as talented, has in my opinion a better attitude and will graft away from lights to flag regardless what position he is in. It's Heidfeld's graft that sometimes earns him podiums as opposed to outright speed.
So I suppose what I'm saying is that I think Kubica has the talent, but he needs to improve his attitude / motivation if he ever plans on fighting for a championship again...
Heidfeld not talented?? You got to have some talent to be in F1 this long and beating every single team mate you have, my friend, that's talent.
You might want to read properly what I've said in this thread. I didn't say I don't think Heidfeld is talented; I said I don't think he's
as talented as Kubica. What I mean by that (and I think it's pretty obvious from what I've written) is that I think in terms of natural talent Kubica is slightly ahead. I also said that I think Heidfeld is a harder worker than Kubica, and that with a better qualifying ability might well be a bigger margin ahead of Kubica in terms of points collected.
I like Heidfeld, and I think he is fully deserving of another good drive in F1, and personally can't understand why he hasn't been picked up already. I have a feeling that the fact he goes about his job efficiently and
quietly may be what goes against him - for many teams he seems to have flown under the radar.
Back on topic, it really seems that there is a huge mix of opinions with regards Kubica, so I'm guessing that the jury really is out. It's a shame that the jury is out when next season he's going to be in a Renault (and I'm making a big assumption that the Renault is once again not going to be one of the top two or three teams - I could of course be very wrong!), as opposed to with him being in a really front end team with a proven winner.
