Well the fact is that it happen's and that some of us are deemed 'STUPID' for having an opinion that does not fall into line with other's belief's.

If someone calls you "stupid" then by all means call them on it, but that's not a reason to lump us all together simply because we support the same team. All I ask is that everyone's opinions be treated individually and not on a team basis.

Tex,

The McLaren fans here imo really need to growup ie learn to put the past behind them.

You can't say stuff like that and not expect other supporters of the team to take offence.

To be fair, Vatanen didn't deserve to win. His campaign was quite a shambles when compared to the opposition. Let's see how this goes, I guess.

Who, um, cheated. Let's not forget that

Vatanen's campaign was relentlessly undermined by the FIA. It was never going to rival Todt's.

what you have to think is that every leader/president of any organisations has to make decision and every decision will be loved and equally hated by some people. the only problem is that with Todt and decision he makes that might be construed as supporting Ferrari. The McLaren boys are gonna get upset.

Yes, but after some time there will have been enough decisions made that sensible people will be able to properly evaluate whether there is a bias or not.

Though, as this thread shows, there is no shortage of people prepared to damn Todt without any evidence of how he's going to do the job. There's little reason to expect evidence one way or the other will stop them from continue with the same shrill accusations.

But back in the real world, FOTA is being more sensible. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/79696

The Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) hopes that FIA president Jean Todt will embrace a new era of co-operation between its organisation and the governing body following the Frenchman's victory in the presidential election.

I don't have a problem with Todt. Whatever questionable tactics Ferrari used while he was in charge there were things any director might do if pushed hard enough. Besides if it's that for which people don't like him, I might point out that it didn't begin until MS and Ross Brawn showed up. Todt was there well before that.
I don't expect him to show any favouratism to Ferrari. If Mosely did, it was higher level administrative philosophical favouratism that wouldn't directly affect race outcomes. I think it's the stewards and Charlie Whiting that do that.

I don't know anything about the man so I'll wait and see how things pan out. However, he's engaged to Michelle Yeoh?! That was a bit of a shock when I saw the BBC news.

Far too premature for those condemning Todt to start doing so. I must admit, I have my own personal thoughts on the appointment that aren't particularly favourable - mainly relating to the campaign itself rather than the actual appointment, however I'm more than willing to give him a fair crack of the whip before I make any full judgement. Only then would those personal opinions be validated.

Of course Todt did anything he could to help Ferrari win - when he was at Ferrari! He was employed at the team to help them win, and he was doing his job and doing it incredibly well whilst he was there. Now he is in a post where he is expected to be impartial and authoritative, who's to say he won't do equally as good a job!

In fact, some could say that his decisions could end up going the opposite way, as he'll know full well that people will be suspicious of the potential for bias, and he may seek to dispel any such rumours...

The only fact that we know is that he is now in the role, and that we have to wait and see when it comes to the crunch!

There will be a proper big newspaper report after they have been digging and find JT is a megalomanic that has a wierd fetish or something.
They'll go digging.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!! At last a new president that can bring order within the FIA ranks. A president that can bring peace and prosperity within F1. Good. Very Good. I am very pleased with this outcome.

Vatanen's campaign was doomed from the onset. FIA representatives campaigning for Todt in their own time, allegations that some within the governing body were attempting to bribe the vote. However Vatanen rose to the bait, he could have played a far better strategy.

You have to remember that Crash-Gate was blown completely out of proportion in an attempt to draw attention away from Vatanen. I bet nobody knows much about the race-fix scandal which is rocking the FIA GT series at the moment? Exactly, because it was facilitated to remove Briatore and pour water on the presidential election campaign.

Although I feel the FIA botched up crash-gate, quite clearly shown by the fact that Briatore has been able to successfully organise an appeal due to the amount of potentially-unfair methods, that is another matter.

Although Mosley should have remained out of the race, he got involved in supporting Todt, but that wasn't to say that the actual process of election was corrupt.

I would say to give Todt time. One thing he will do is allow for unity within the governing body. Although his proposals may be frowned upon, at least they will be listened to and there will be stability. If Vatanen was in I doubt he would have the same authority - what a huge pro-Mosley faction still in the FIA and the outgoing president himself sitting in the Senate.

I'm worried about the potential formation of Commisioners for each championship, I have also made this clear before. Especially with such names being thrown about.

As McLaren Fan posted in a previous thread, I have already spoken about this. The Mosley era lives on.

However I say give Todt a chance. If he brings the same sort of motivation to the FIA post as he did to Ferrari then he could really make things work. His campaign was based on teamwork and although the team may be bad, that is no surprise. Todt might prove us wrong, so I agree with you Zurich_allan.

Married actually.

Vaatanen was too much an innovation for the FIA, they arent' ready yet :crying:

Well, actually, I still expect some kind of improvement over the next couple of years.

To those saying Todt will favour Ferrari, to be fair I don't think that will happen. It could very well be the opposite, though I hope for more neutrality anyway.
Todt and Ferrari did not part amicably, at least according to Italian media.
I just hope the FIA will be on the news for sport related issues only from now on... :whip:
