I dont know why Smedley is on the list. He's just an engineer thats really good at his job.

My vote goes to Kimi Raikkonen. He's won a race, scored podiums, scored a boatload of points, and is the sole reason Ferrari stayed in 3rd place after Massa's accident. Despite this, dumbass douchebags still say that he's lost his motivation and the will to win.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ah but he Still doesn't get enough credit. He had to put up with Badoer...

Surely a driver is just doing his job: he's paid a hell of a lot of money to get results for the team. What an ignorant and scandalous comment!

Anyway, I voted for Raikkonen. Without making too much fuss, he was pretty good this year.

Thats a bit rich coming from the guy who claimed Button had very little balls for not winning the title the way you wanted him to.

Its not an ignorant and scandalous comment. I'm not taking anything away from Rob, he just gets a lot of praise (especially on here), whereas Kimi races his arse off and still gets criticized for losing his motivation.

I don't see how your post fits together. First, I don't think Button is a poor champion because he didn't win the title how I wanted him to. This is purely your own misunderstanding of my views. To clarify once and for all. Prost, for instance, didn't go flat out in every single race, but he's not a poor champion. Button is a poor champion, however, because he has neither the skill or mentality deserving of the greatest prize in motorsport.

Now, how does this relate to Smedley and Raikkonen? Answer: it does not. And nor are you not taking anything away from Smedley. You just said he's 'just an engineer', tantamount to saying he's not equal to a driver. This is bollocks of epic proportions. For your information, Smedley did extremely well in school, before going onto to do a Masters degree in Mathematics and Engineering from an excellent university, after which he become involved in motorsport. His job is different than Raikkonen's, but it was no less difficult to get there, and it's no less difficult to carry out.

Whether Raikkonen gets the praise he deserves or not is a completely separate issue. In my view, Raikkonen has done well this season, but nobody can deny he has not always tried as hard as can throughout his career, and this is especially despicable given his hefty pay cheque. And yet the bar steward is still looking to eek another few million out of McLaren to drive for the team in 2010.

Yeah you're right I dont see how my post fits together at all. :hehe: I think what I was trying to say was that you called my comment ignorant and scandalous, yet you go around saying Button is a poor champion for this and that and other BS.

I think you are completely misunderstanding what I said. I could have worded it better, because I did make it sound as if engineer's are lower than drivers, but thats not what I'm saying. Rob Smedley's accomplishments are pretty well known, and everyone in the F1 community knows that he is a damn good engineer. He gets a good amount of praise and is quite frequently seen and interviewed on tv, especially here in the states. This to me however, doesnt qualify as an unsung hero. An unsung hero, to me, is someone who does their job and does it well with little or no recognition or under extreme criticism. If anything, the true unsung hero(es) of 2009 and all previous years, are the men and women working on the cars up and down the pit lane.
