and when the car isnt utterly dominant its Jensons fault? He utilised what he had better than Rubens did. I cant see how anyone can fault a guy who gets 6 wins!

If he can just sort the qualifying out he'll be alright, his race pace has still been generally very good (save for the odd mid-season race where Brawn had tyre issues).

Then again, there is the argument about the braking issues Rubens had early on. Rubens had some issues under braking, which he found a solution to, but it meant he couldn't run the aero wheel covers. Which lost him a bit of performance from the car.

But the issues were solved during Silverstone when they changed the brake material. Since Silverstone Rubens has been the better Brawn driver.

The phrase "your only as good as your last race" is whats stabbing Button in the back right now. I've re-watched the first 7 races, and every win from Jenson was amazing. He really just isn't the same driver lately.

It's not just the car. Rubens has way outperformed Jenson in the latter half of the season. If Jenson had driven as well as Rubens in the last seven races, he'd have been champion ages ago.

And it's not that I'm "faulting" Jenson, I'm just saying that overall, there have been lots of champions who have worked harder and driven better for their championships that Jenson. As championships go, it's not one of the more impressive ones.

jenson can be champion, I think the main problem is people want to see a massive close finish at the end, rather than 6 out of 7 wins in the start. Not to mention those were 1-2s.

I don't really know what I think of Button and his performace this year.
I don't think pressure or lack of motivation are anything to do with Jenson's performace in the last half of the season - it's just that his car is nowhere near as dominant as it once was. Simple as. Which, unfortunatly for Button, goes to show just how much of his dominance was down to the car. Though he did whup Barichello's bottom :D
But now Barichello is consistantly finishing better than Button...

What Button needs is a strong finish to the season and help his reputation. And to finally shut all the critics up.

I don't fault him for getting six wins, I don't think anyone could - there were opportunities where he could have ended up winning (Malaysia, Bahrain, Spain and Turkey) but he drove good races and didn't make mistakes. I do fault him for the following string of results, though:

6 5 7 7 Ret 2 5 8

:-\

I'm going to be really frustrated if his last two results are both 8th place finishes and he's still crowned champion. That would be the most boring end to a championship challenge ever. :(

Not when Schumi didn't need to challenge.

Just a little snippet from my blog that I wrote today on the subject:

"Jenson Button's title hopes are in jeopardy as Sebastian Vettel closes to 16 points of the Briton and just two points behind Rubens Barrichello. Button only needs two fifth place finishes to take the drivers championship but with Brawn struggling to get in the points at Suzuka and Vettel's late season charge, getting two fifth place finishes could be harder than it would seem. Will Ross Brawn put all his eggs in one basket and push all resources into Jenson's title bid or will he allow for his two drivers to battle it out for the remaining two races. Personally I would put my eggs in the Jenson basket as Rubens is unlikely to outscore his team mate by 15 points in two races, Rubens is equal to Jenson in skill and experience, certainly not better than Button by any stretch of the imagination. Although I believe that Jenson's saving grace will be Vettel's engine supply; the German has to use the same engine for the remaining two races so will be cautious while Jenson can afford to push his Mercedes engine harder, the Mercedes power unit has been bullet proof this season; which can't be said for the Renault engine in the back of the Red Bull."

It's only hard if he believes the media hype. 14 points clear with 2 races left? His rivals have to do really well and he has to do hopelessly :censored: to lose.

I think Vettel will do well in Brazil. And I'm quite sure that Lewis Hamilton will win in Abu Dhabi, after his results in Albert Park, Valencia and Singapore.

How would Button go though? 8th in Abu Dhabi? I think so.

But the question is how will he go in Brazil? That's quite difficult to predict. I know Hamilton has never done too well in Brazil. But Button? I don't know. All I can say is that he's consistent. Consistently in the tail end of the points.

I'd say he'd get 6th and wrap up the championship. But that said, my hopes are on Vettel. Button has had only 1 retirement this year. I think he's due for another.

I s'pose it is merely wishful thinking. But I do not like the fact that my boys (SV and LH) are being beaten.
